Summary: A moment in the day of the life of Saya and Rurik, away from the classroom. (nothing happens DX)

“If anybody finds anything, I’ll make you right.” With a wink to the younger children, he turned away, pausing when he spotted Saya frowning with her arms folded over her chest. He smiled. “Do you doubt me?”
“It’s naught more than a treasure hunt.”
“Nay, lady, let’s call it hide and seek. The items are well hidden, indeed. You have to find them before they get lost to time.” With a final nod to Rurik, he turned and entered the castle.
Saya snorted. “It’s a treasure hunt.”
Rurik rolled his eyes. “You’re always so contrary.”
“It’s my thing,” she said, dropping her arms, then walking away, distantly following the children. “What does he want from us anyway? There’s nothing in the forests but legends and ghosts.”
“And history, as Merlin is always saying.”
“Yeah, well, he’ll not give gold for words.” She grinned over her shoulder at him. “Unless we use words of magic.”
“Merlin wouldn’t approve.”
“That’s true.” She slapped a vine out of her way and entered the cool shadows of the forest, ignoring the giggles of children as they raced down and around the paths. One youth slammed into her thighs, his thin arms wrapping around her knees and nearly tripping her. “You imp!”
Laughing, he raced off before she could catch him by his ear. Growling, Saya continued down the path.
“What’s gotten you so angry?”
“He’s a quack.”
Rurik laughed before he could stop himself. Self conscious, he covered his smile and meekly followed his fellow student. “He’s king.”
“Bah, he was king long ago. He’s naught but a senile old man now.”
“With history. History with Merlin. If for no other reason, you should respect him for that.”
“I show Merlin no respect. Why should I show him any?”
Shaking his head, Rurik followed silently as Saya led them through the forest, keeping a careful eye on the younger children as they picked rocks, acorns, and twigs to return to the yard for some sort of reward.
Off in her own world, Saya nearly tripped over yet another child as the girl knelt on the path, holding out her empty hand toward a frightened rabbit. Biting off a curse, Saya knelt with the girl, startling the rabbit into bolting. The little girl looked up at Saya, wide blue eyes filling with tears.
“I wanted to bring the bunny back.”
Saya raised a brow. “For a pet?”
She shook her head. “To show to Merlin.”
Rurik leaned over them. “Why to Merlin?”
“Because he said that if we brought him a bunny, he would show us wisdom.”
Saya laughed. “Did he now? Well, we simply must bring him a bunny, then, hadn’t we?”
“You’ll help?” The little girl jumped to her feet, clapping her hands.
“For sure. I’d like to see what wisdom Merlin will find in a bunny.” Smiling up at Rurik, she pointed the direction the rabbit had fled. “Fetch.”
Opening his mouth to object, he closed it without a fight, knowing there was no use in fighting back. She would always get her way, and he could never deny her. Her will was simply too overbearing.
He peered through the brush, keenly finding the rabbit’s frantic trail and began his own game of hide and seek with the critter.
