Author’s Note: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon. This is fluff, the challenge required fluff do I tried to deliver, some angst slipped in, it’s very sly so don’t blame me. Also, the prompt was the inspiration, couldn't work the actual word into the fic and not have it feel awkard.

Arthur closed his eyes, his thumb stroking Merlin’s skin and he took a deep breath his voice soft and raw with emotion as he talked. “I honestly think I could hate you, you have a freedom I could never have, you see the world in a way I never will. To you it’s a beautiful place; it hasn’t been beautiful for me for a long time, too harsh, too violent. I used to think you were stupid for not seeing it, naïve, but you’re not. You see it; you see it more than I do. I still don’t think the world is beautiful, I think you are.” Arthur pressed a kiss to Merlin’s hand, smoothing a hand across Merlin’s hair.

He turned to leave, his eyes burning from the exhaustion of doing nothing but watch Merlin twist and turn with sickness for the past week when a soft voice stopped him.

“I think you are pretty too.”

Arthur turned around, his eyes widening and Merlin still was in the bed only this time, unlike the past 8 days, 16 hours, and 34 minutes his eyes were opened. Arthur was at his side in an instant, his body already folding into the chair he had been occupying the whole time and his hand reaching out to clench Merlin’s in his own, Merlin’s grip was weak but he was returning it, finally.

“You’re awake.”

“Really,” Merlin muttered a smile curving on his lips “how long has it been?”

“Too long.” and Arthur couldn’t stop touching him, needed the feel of Merlin’s flesh on his own, alive and warm. “You’ve been asleep for over a week.”

Merlin winced, guild flashing across his face “Sorry bout that, I didn’t think it would take that much out of me to be honest. The book didn’t warn about that.” Merlin frowned already off in his own world and Arthur could have been mad. He had almost gone out of his mind with worry, he hadn’t even known about the magic that long before something had happened to do with that had had put the other man in a coma.

He couldn’t though, he would later but all he could feel now was relief.

Arthur moved closer, trying to make his voice light, a smile touching his lips that was almost real “So you think I’m pretty?”

Merlin grinned weakly, his head turned to Arthur and his eyes sparkling “I think you are very pretty, you are the prettiest girl in Camelot.”

“Shut up.” and there was no venom in Arthur’s voice, just a naked affection and love for the man lying on the bed beside him.

“Make me.” Merlin grinned back, the old familiar flare in his voice.

Arthur did, his lips lightly touching the other man’s at first, soft before they firmed and got demanding, devouring the other man just to taste him, assuring himself that he was real, that everything was going to be okay. Merlin moaned against Arthur’s mouth disappoint in the sound as Arthur moved away and settled back in the chair he had been sitting.

“You’re weak, get some rest.”

“All I’ve been doing is resting,” Merlin groused but he settled back against the bed his eyes already drifting closed. “You’re staying right?” and there was just a touch of uncertainty to his voice, enough so that Arthur squeezed his hand in reassurance.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Arthur declared honestly “just rest, I’ll be here when you wake up.” and his heart felt light with the knowledge that it was once again when and not if.
