Chapter One

“Adam Lambert,” Kris repeated.

Adam laughed lightly when Kris stared at him, looking slightly shocked. “I’m the cavalry,” he explained, focusing on the handcuffs.

It took a few moments before Kris seemed to get over his surprise. “Not that I’m not grateful, but why?”

His concentration was on the handcuffs when he answered. “I heard our parents talking.” He glanced over at Kris. “They were trying to figure out how to get you out with the least amount of damage.”

“So,” Kris paused, his confusion evident, “that’s why they decided to sneak you in?”

Adam shook his head. “They don’t actually know I’m here.” He let out a small sound of triumph when the handcuffs fell open. “I’m pretty sure they’re still planning.”

Kris stared at him. “That doesn’t answer the why question.”

“I know,” Adam said. He smiled a bit. “I like your parents. They’ve always been good to me and I didn’t like seeing them worried. You’ve been missing for days already, it was time to act, not plan.” He straightened and stepped back. “Can you stand?”

There was a moment of silence and then Kris nodded. “Yes.” He slowly climbed to his feet and then swore lightly when he stumbled.

Adam reached out and held Kris up, pressing him back against the wall. He breathed in Kris’s scent, an odd mix that reminded him of cinnamon and fresh grass on a spring day, and made a decision.

“There’s a way to give you strength. It won’t last very long but it’ll last long enough for us to get out of here.” Adam studied him, taking in the way Kris considered the offer before nodding.

“Do it.”

He raised an eyebrow when Kris didn’t even ask what had to be done before he nodded back and leaned down, pressing his lips to Kris’s neck. “Relax,” he whispered. His lips twitched when Kris snorted and then the sound was cut off by a gasp as Adam bit down, his fangs sliding into Kris’s neck easily. His eyes closed as Kris’s taste flooded his senses. He groaned, forcing himself not to take too much before he pulled away, licking his lips before biting into his own wrist and holding it up to Kris’s mouth. “Drink. It’ll connect us briefly so that we’ll be able to hear each other’s thoughts and so you can borrow some of my strength to get out of here. Once the blood has run through your system, the connection will be gone.”

Kris stared at him for a few minutes and then leaned down and wrapped his mouth around the bite mark, sucking lightly, using his tongue to keep the blood flowing. Adam shifted, eyes closing briefly at the feel before he tugged on his wrist once, nodding when Kris immediately stopped. Already, Kris looked better. That would hopefully make it easier once they started trying to get out.

“Let’s go,” he said, turning to the door. He didn’t bother checking to be sure that Kris was following, choosing to make sure there was no one waiting for them outside. Even with Kris borrowing his strength, they’d be screwed if they had to do too much fighting.
