Summary: Parker doesn't like being left alone.

Parker was pacing.

The clock beside her turned to 12:01 and she pulled out her cellphone again to redial. She held the phone to her ear and it rang. It rang, and rang, and went to voicemail.

“Hello, you've reached Bela Talbot-”

Parker hung up and clenched the phone between her hands. She continued pacing. Her heart was pounding. It wasn't in the fun way like when she was fueled with adrenaline. This was something else, something she wasn't used to.

“Parker?” A concerned voice came from the other side of the door, but Parker couldn't hear.

She hit send again on the phone. It went to voicemail again. She looked at the clock. 12:02. She stopped pacing and sat on the edge of her bed. She'd wait. The phone would ring. Bela never took long to call Parker back, especially not when Parker called this late at night. She'd call back. Parker was certain of it.

“Parker?” The voice was more insistent this time, and knocking was accompanied. “Parker, sweetie, let me in,” Sophie called in.

“No. I'm waiting,” Parker called back. Her voice didn't sound like her own. It was sharper. It sounded like someone who was scared, but she wasn't. She was never scared.

“For what?” Sophie asked.

“I'm waiting,” Parker repeated. Her tone was softer then. “I'm waiting,” she said. “I'm waiting....”

***

Bela hadn't liked to talk about her deal, and she liked even less making Parker worry, but she had explained it all. She had to. Bela knew what it would do to Parker in the end. She knew what it would do to Parker even if she did explain it all, but not explaining it would hurt Parker even more.

It took some time. Parker learned of the things Bela dealt with, but even knowing about things that bumped in the night – or daylight – Parker couldn't understand it. All Parker could hear was that Bela would be leaving her. Sure, Bela kept telling her not to lose hope yet. She'd tell Parker she wasn't going to let anyone take her down.

She would touch Parker's cheek and tell her she would be okay. Whatever happened, she would be okay.

But Parker knew she wouldn't.

Bela had somehow fallen into Parker's life and Parker had grown used to her. Parker had grown dependent on her. Bela taught Parker a lot about human nature and answered any question Parker could throw at her. Bela never belittled Parker or looked at her the wrong way. Bela only ever looked at her the right way. A way that Parker needed.

She needed Bela, and she wouldn't accept the idea that one day she wouldn't have her. Even when it came to it.

There hadn't been a goodbye. Parker wouldn't. She just hugged Bela tightly and smiled when Bela kissed her lightly.

“Parker...” Bela was watching her, and Parker could see the pain written all over her face, but she wouldn't accept it.

“I'll see you in a couple days,” Parker nodded.

Bela's eyes closed and she shook her head slowly. “Alright. I'll see you in a few days,” she murmured the words.

Parker watched Bela closely. She didn't like how sad Bela looked. Scared. She wanted to be able to make it go away, but she didn't know how. She didn't know what words she was supposed to use to make it stop. Her fingers reached out to brush at the tears on Bela's face. Her hand came away damp and she rubbed her fingers together.

Bela caught Parker's hand and gave it a squeeze before looking up at her again. “You know I love you, darling,” she said. It sounded like something was in her throat. Parker just nodded and pulled away. She watched the floor awkwardly and slowly tipped her head from side to side. She blinked several times and finally met Bela's eyes.

“I'll see you soon,” she whispered. Then she nodded quickly and turned to walk out the door. She'd be back. She'd see Bela soon. That's how it worked. That's how it always worked.

Sophie busted into the room and looked Parker over. The blond was sitting rigid on the bed with the phone in her hands, and she was staring fire into the floor.

“Parker...”

Parker didn't even look up. She shook her head. She knew what day it was, and she knew what time it was. And she knew that Bela always called her back. Until she couldn't anymore.

“I don't hear them,” she murmured.

“Hear what?” Sophie moved closer, but still kept her distance. She really wasn't sure what was going on, but she had noticed Parker acting different the past couple of days. And different for Parker was...different. Sophie had been the only one who knew about Bela. Not about the things Bela did, but her existence. Parker had gone to Sophie with questions about things with Bela, and while surprised at first, Sophie had always been there.

Parker knew Sophie couldn't help her anymore.

“The dogs,” Parker said. Her words were quiet, confused.

“What dogs?”

“The dogs that came. They took her.”

“Took who?” Sophie sat beside Parker and hesitantly reached out to touch her back. “Parker...”

It was a long gap of time before Parker was able to speak, and when she did the word was almost too quiet to be a word. “Bela.”

“The dogs took Bela?” Sophie was clearly confused and it showed on her face.

Parker nodded and looked at Sophie. “I'm alone now.”

Sophie had no idea what Parker was talking about or what had happened to Bela, but she knew she had never seen that look on Parker's face before. And the way Parker said those words broke her heart. “No. You're not, sweetie.” Her hand moved up and brushed through Parker's hair. “You'll never be alone.” She wasn't going to force Parker, so she just waited until Parker's head fell to her shoulder. Sophie sighed and leaned closer, wrapping her arm around her friend. “I won't leave you alone.”
