Summary: Myka is waiting for Pete after an inventory but he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to show up.
Myka had just finished her part of the inventory for the day. The past week had been amazingly quiet in term of artifacts on the loose and Artie had found no better occupation for them but to keep on with the inventory of the Warehouse. Myka didn't particularly mind doing it. It was quiet in the Warehouse and the activity allowed her mind to rest by the simple repetitive gestures she had to make to complete the task at hand. Also, it familiarized her with many artifacts which was always a good thing in her line of business.
This time Pete and her had decided to go separate ways to cover more ground. She didn't exactly remember why they had thought this would be a good idea because truth be told the Warehouse probably had no end and no human could ever complete an inventory of the place. Some days Myka even wondered if the Warehouse wasn't adding things on its own, or moving shelves and tents around just to make it appear there was still a lot more inventory to do.
Myka looked at her watch. Pete should have been here half an hour ago. They had choosen the Tesla area as a meeting point but somehow Pete still wasn't there. For a minute Myka was tempted to just go back to Leena's B&B without Pete, but knowing him he had probably played with some artifact and was stuck somewhere. She often wondered how he ever managed to become a secret services agent. He could be such a child that it was surprising he still hadn't made the place blow up. She sighed. She really shouldn't have agreed to leave him on his own for his part of the inventory. With a resignated glance towards Artie's desk and the exit of the Warehouse, Myka turned her back to it and started wandering the aisles of the Warehouse. It wasn't long before she found her partner. He apparently had managed to do five aisles of shelves of inventory before falling asleep. His body was laid on the ground, face down, and his mouth letting out loud snores escape. Myka shook her head. Inventories were not the most fun activity but she had trouble imagining Pete falling asleep in the middle of one. He was always full of energy and life that it was highly unlikely that he just dropped unconscious and exhausted on the floor. She knelt near him and pushed him gently out of the way so she could look properly at the shelves. And soon enough her eyes found what she was looking for: Chevreul pendulum. She almost laughed at the discovery. Of course, Pete would have wanted to play with it and defy its laws to prove he could resist hypnosis. Myka took a closer look at the description of the artifact "side-effect includes extreme sleepiness and drowsiness for 24 hours". She turned back to look at her partner on the floor and hesitated a second.
Oh well, it'll teach him a lesson. And with that thought she walked back, deciding to let him sleep it off on the floor of the Warehouse. Knowing Pete as she did she very well knew it probably wouldn't teach him any lesson but she couldn't help but hope. And in any case it offered her an evening of peace and quiet at the B&B with nothing to do but cuddle her bear and get lost in one of the favourite books.
