Summary: Sometimes Myka wondered if Helena was truly human.

Sometimes Myka wondered if Helena was truly human. She had this inexhaustible energy that seemed to never fade. It simply couldn't belong to a human. Sometimes Myka even wondered if one of Helena's experience had gone bad and altered her somehow. Maybe one of her experience with electricity went wrong and she had ended up fueled with this endless power source. It was a stupid hypothesis Myka knew. She wouldn't even have thought of it before joining the Warehouse. However the world was very different now. She had been confronted to things she had tought could never be possible. So maybe, just maybe, Helena wasn't completely human anymore.

Myka hadn't quite been ready to accept her hypothesis on faith though. Se may had opened up her mind to the mysteries of the world but she wasn't that ready to believe in things if she couldn't explain them somehow, rationalise them by proof, or at least some sort of proof. So she had decided to test the endurance of Helena. It hadn't been easy at first because she hadn't known how to do it while staying awake and attentive for as long as Helena could. At first she had offered her help on Helena's projects. She certainly didn't know as much as the other woman in science and related field but she could still assist when told what to do. The only problem was she had ended up falling asleep too many times, only to wake up in her bed or on a couch in the Warehouse, Helena still working or bringing her a fresh mug of coffee and seeming as fresh as if she had had hours of sleep, which Myka knew was not the case.

One day Myka had been unable to stop herself. She had been tired of trying to find a way to exhaust the other woman. Even after a particularly difficult missions she still seemed fueled with more energy than her or even Pete. This time they had been chasing an artifact that had included a lot of running around a small town. Pete and Myka were both glad to be back at the Warehouse and were sipping hot chocolates that Leena had made them while being inert on the sofas. Helena was also sipping a hot drink but it was tea (it seemed you couldn't make her drink anything else when it came to hot drinks) and she was sitting on the floor examining some plans and notes for a new tracking device. Claudia was supposed to help her but she was in town at the moment, claiming she needed to buy some more sweets for movie nights. Seeing Helena still working while everything in her yelled at her to go to sleep Myka had been unable to contain the words.

"Do you ever rest?"

Helena had turned her head to her, a wide grin on her lips. "What would be the fun in that," she answered a tinge of mischief in her voice. Myka hadn't bothered to reply and only decided to rest and forget about her idea to test Helena's energy. Helena was simply over active and just couldn't rest. After all there were some people that never needed more than very few hours of sleep a day to function perfectly well.

---*---

A month later, she had almost completely forgotten about her past experiments. She had simply accepted the fact that Helena was unique. She had still no proof that Helena was not more than human or under the control of some artifact but she had just accepted things as they were. In any case there were other domains in which Helena was extremely human and that was enough for Myka.

As time went by and Helena settled in at the Warehouse, she became a friend to Myka. Both woman could often be found together in Myka's room in the quiet evening. It wasn't even uncommon to find both women asleep in the same bed. At first it had been all it was. Helana would come to Myka's room in the evening when everyone else had retreated to their quarters and both women would go about whatever they felt like doing as if they were alone. Except they were not. Sometimes they talked, other times they almost ignored each other presence but they knew the other woman was here. Myka had suspected it was a way for Helena not to feel completely alone and lost in this world and slowly Myka herself had gotten use to having Helena in her room. She had found herself missing her on the rare occasions when she didn't come.

One day, while Helena was working on her Farnsworth, trying to improve it on some of Claudia's recommendations, she cut herself. Myka who had been reading, comfortably tucked under the covers of her bed, had jumped out of it the second she had heard the other woman moan of pain at the surprise of being cut. The cut was really nothing but Myka had automatically taken care of it to make sure it would never be more. They hadn't even talked. Myka had acted and Helena had let herself be guided. When Myka was finished with putting a small plaster on Helena's fingers both women suddenly realised the contact between them. Myka was still holding Helena's hand while she didn't need to and without even thinking about it she took a step closer and kiss the other woman lips tentatively. When she thought about it she really didn't know why she had acted this way in this moment. Maybe it had been the fact of seeing Helena's blood after such a small and insignificant cut in an everyday action, confirming she was just as fragile as anyone else. She had taken some bad injuries during assignments but somehow those had never seemed too bad to Myka. Helena was strong and always recovered quickly. She never even complained or let out her pain. But this time, a small cut, a ridiculous cut, had made her moan in pain. Myka knew it was because of the surprise of it, but in hearing it, in seeing it, it had made her realise how human Helena was. She was not invincible, not when she could get normal everyday cuts.

Helena had responded to her kiss and soon both women had found themselves naked on Myka's bed, exploring each other bodies for the very first time. Myka had lost track of time but it had felt like hours of pure bliss. Helena was certainly more than skillful in the arts of pleasure (which wasn't really a surprise. The woman was a master in everything she did). Myka didn't even question what had happened or why. It felt normal, as if they had been lovers all along only not knowing it.

She smiled at the thought. They had certainly lived as a couple for a while now, only they had never touched in that way before, and somehow Myka wondered why it hadn't happened sooner. But it didn't matter, not now that they had each other and that Helena was sleeping against her, her naked body pressed against Myka's own. And suddenly it hit her. Helena was sleeping and she was not. She didn't even feel all that tired. Her smiled widened as she realised she had finally found a way to tire Helana seemingly inexhaustible source of energy. She kissed the other woman forehead, thinking that she would need to retry the experiment to prove it worked, and it was an experiment she would gladly undertake again, and preferably soon. Helena was really human after all.
