Summary: Miranda likes to improvise.

Miranda was sitting on the floor, her legs were crossed under herself in a vain attempt to stay still. Pearl was sitting against the wall a few metres away from her friend, her body completely relaxed.

"Come on Pearl," pleaded Miranda. "I promise I have everything planned out."

"Like for the Guntree case?"

"We got out of that trap just fine, didn't we," she argued, her body leaning forward as if getting her gaze closer to Pearl's eyes could make the other woman change her mind.

"Not by your brilliant infallible plan if I recall correctly," insisted Pearl holding Miranda's stare.

"Okay, okay we did have to improvise a bit but..." she started as her body resumed her position, her eyes going to the ceiling.

"A bit?" Pearl raised an eyebrow, pretending shock.

"Maybe a lot. But we caught the bad guys." Miranda smiled at Pearl. Her eyes shining with this strange mixture of tease and thrill that Pearl had come to know so well. Pearl shook her head smiling. She knew there was no point continuing this argument. She had lost.

It had become an exercise of them before a mission. Pearl would argue for caution and more preparation time while Miranda wouldn't listen. Most time they would end up following Miranda's impulsion but on a few occasion this game saved their lives by making them realise they did need more knowledge of their target.

"Okay, let's go then," said Pearl a grin on her face as she jumped on her feet, ready for action.

---*---

Miranda caught Pearl's hand in hers and forced her to break into a run.

"You know, you should really try and stick to plan more," managed to yell Pearl in between breaths.

Miranda looked back at her quickly, an amused glanced in her eyes for response. Pearl felt like laughing. She really needed to learn how to resist the other woman. Her friend had way too much power over her, but in that moment she didn't have time to think about it. A cold rush of wind hit her face and forced her to close her eyes. She heard the door of the club slam. She open her eyes but before she could take in her surroundings she felt Miranda's body crashing into her. Her back hit the wall violently. A moan of pain escaped her lips but it barely had time to be heard before She felt Miranda's lips on her own, her warm hands slipping under her t-shirt. She wanted to protest, to move her friend away but she felt drawn into the kiss in spite of her. She pressed her hand hard against the other woman's back, wanting to feel her heart beat against her own chest.

She thought she heard the door of the club slam again and a rush of foot running away. A few seconds later she felt Miranda's hands leave her skin, leaving her cold and shivering at the loss of contact. She stared at her friend. Miranda was grinning, her eyes in the direction of the man that were chasing them.

"It worked," she said proudly.

"What..." The word stumbled out of Pearl. She didn't know what was happening.

"It worked," repeated Miranda. "Improvisation always works."

Se turned to face Pearl. "Don't look so shock, you know I'm good at improvisation," she said half laughing at Pearl's evident confusion. "Come on, let's go back home. Their is nothing more we can do here tonight." And with those words she kissed Pearl's cheek before taking her hand in hers and leading her away from the club. Pearl followed without a word, trying not to remember the feeling of Miranda's lips on hers and the maddening rhythm of her heart against her chest.<\lj-cut>
