Summary: Pearl takes Miranda into her part of the world.
Miranda hold Pearl's hand a bit tighter as they crossed the boundaries between the city and the wild, the trees engulfing them in their dark embrace, shielding them from the lights of the city. Pearl turned her head to her and smiled warmly. Her eyes were burning bright with memories.
"You missed this place." It wasn't a question, just a mere statement of fact. Pearl nodded in response and stared ahead of her again.
"It's not far now."
Miranda had heard of the rocks Pearl wanted to show her but she had never seen them. No one from the city ever had. It was a forbidden territory, it was the wild, it was those other people. Miranda never really cared about them and never really wondered why they were out of bound. She had enough in the city and in her own world to keep her busy. It wasn't until Pearl showed up in her life that she started to realise fully that those other people really existed and were not mere legends. She was - had been one of them. She had never really talked about her home and Miranda had never pressed her to. Pearl was like her, an outsider and there was nothing more to say.
Miranda had introduced her to object of her world, she had told her tales of history, described her life there, her surroundings but had never expected Pearl to do the same. In truth she had been fearing Pearl ever mentioning her home. There was so many tales of mysticism and mystery linked to those other people. Miranda knew they must be all false but still, she hadn't been keen on discovering that part of this world. But Pearl had been missing the trees. She had been living in the city for two months now and had started to felt trap in the straight lines of the city. Miranda has suggested she took a trip back. She hadn't expected Pearl to invite her.
Pearl slowed her pace. "We're there." She turned to face Miranda, a smile on her face and her eyes shining with expectation. "Close your eyes."
"Pearl... I'm not a child."
"Close your eyes. I want you to be surprised."
"I already am. I never set foot across the boundaries."
"Please," her voice was soft and insisting. Miranda didn't resist.
"Okay," she said as her lids closed.
"Just follow me."
"Alright."
Miranda grabbed Pearl's hand with both of her and followed her as instructed. In less than a minute Pearl stopped again. She let go of Miranda's hands and went behind her, her head almost resting on Miranda's shoulder.
"Open your eyes," she whispered softly in her ears.
Miranda obeyed, a shiver running down her spine. She wasn't sure if it was caused by Pearl's breath against her skin of the colours that suddenly invaded her world. Pearl had brought them in what seemed to be a large clearing in the forest that was filled with rocks of all size, all of them mixed with set of bright colours that shone under the sun, reflecting against one another.
"It's..." She couldn't find any words to describe what she was seeing. It was beyond imagination. It was like she had travelled to another world, a world made of colours and lights.
She turned to face Pearl. She was smiling.
"They're like your little rock."
Instinctively Miranda brought her hand to her necklace, caressing the rock gently. It had become so smooth over the years it looked nothing like when she had first found it.
"Is it coming from her," she asked.
"I don't know. I was never told."
She turned back to face the rocks, stepping back to lean against Pearl, forcing their body to touch. She could almost feel the beating of the other young woman's heart against her back. She closed her eyes and kept caressing her rock. She liked the idea of it having come from here, from Pearl's part of this world, it brought her closer to her, as if she had always had a part of her around. <\lj-cut>
