Author’s Notes & Disclaimer: The views of the characters do not necessarily represent those of the author. (Nor do they necessarily not represent them.) Just covering my intentionally apolitical butt here. This story did not go where I thought it was going, and despite my reservations, I'm positing it anyway. I won't censor Declan anymore than I'll allow myself to be censored. As is usual when writing Declan, this piece is in the first person (unlike last week). I find he's more fun to read that way, and he is certainly more pleasurable to write.

Oh, and for reference regarding timelines, the war referred to is the first Gulf War, not the current conflict in Iraq.

My apologies if the characters manage to offend anyone. That was not my intent. It was not even my intent to write this particular story. It was the story that would be told, however, and that what's I'm going with. For all that, I do hope you enjoy. Many thanks to meredevachon for her beta read of the story. You're the best!
