Looking at the nearly 300 prompts, I am so proud of
tamingthemuse as a community and all the authors that have written, are writing and will write for it. So many prompt communities fold, but we've been going strong for going on 6 years. 6 years of continuous writing, prompting and fun.
When I first started, way back when, I was certain that I'd never even hit the Goddess level. 30 weeks of straight writing seemed an impossible goal, let alone making it to the Gaia level. Hitting the 30 mark was like a shot of adrenaline and I couldn't stop after that. I had to keep going, keep writing. I had to see how far I could make it, and I did make it to Gaia. Sitting here now and looking back at that, if I could do it, so can all of you.
I'm not saying it's easy. There were days when I didn't want to write. Or those days when the muses were being difficult. And then there's real life that likes to interfere and make things even harder. But dedication and perseverance pays off. Wanting to prove yourself (if only to
yourself) helps as well. I'm certain that if all of you want it, you can join those of us that have hit that lovely Gaia level, which means you keep your rank forever, even if you stop writing. Then you can do as some of us are doing, and go back and collect the other awards :D.
I know some have grumbled about the prompts. Occasionally we get ones that make no sense, but please don't blame us mods. We actually do use a randomized Excel spreadsheet for the prompts. We have no clue what's going to pop up. And some of those prompts are those submitted by the authors that have reached certain ranks. The rest are courtesy of our lovely founder,
lit_gal, so blame her :D.
Remember, when it comes to prompts, creativity is the key. You don't have to use the exact word in you story. Use the idea. Be flexible. The prompt does have to be
somehow incorporated into your submission, but how you use it is up to you. For example, the 'Ares' prompt. You could use the Greek God of War (just mention, have him be a character cameo, etc), or you could use the astrological sign, the software program, and so on. No prompt is set in stone. Each author is in charge of what they write.
Okay, enough with the rambling pep talk, on to the reminders.
- All submissions are to be at least 500 words. More is great, but that is the minimum.
- You should at least do a self-beta to catch those major spelling and grammar errors, please.
- All submissions are to be tagged with the proper prompt and author tags. If you don't have an author tag, contact us mods via the Contact the Mods page and ask for one.
- Please use this subject line format for your submission: Prompt# - Prompt Text - Title - Author - fandom
- All submissions should be in by midnight your time (Contact us mods if there are issues)
- Please use a proper header for all submissions: (even I'm bad for this one o.O)
