First, I'm going to apologize if I come across rude or just plain mean, but I've had a difficult day and my fan just broke so I'm not a happy camper.

This week I reissued the prompt, a first in the history of the comm I believe. Truthfully, I was just tired that day and had been contacted by a fair number of people that I just wanted it to end. Unless there is an agreement amongst the mods, it'll probably never happen again.

The whole idea of this comm is to challenge writers. It's to make us think and adapt. That means words and phrases that aren't common, aren't in everyday life. If everyday things prompted us to write, then the comm probably wouldn't exist.

Yes the word (ebriecition) was hard. There have been harder. Look back through the prompt tags. We've had some prompts that have had authors in tears, me included. But it made us think, and that's the point.

Now, some have the misinterpretation that the idea of the prompts is to goad writers on existing work. No, the whole idea is to inspire writing plainly. Existing, new wips, one-shots, poems, essays, screenplays, etc. We, thankfully, aren't like other writing comms that make authors write something new for each prompt. All we want is for everyone to write something! We want the creative thoughts flowing. We don't ask for beta'd, perfect work. It's understood that some of this will only see the light of day here on the comm.

Also, I would like to point out, that when it comes to use of the prompts, we are a lot more lenient that others. I am a part of a lot of prompting comms (tables, weekly, monthly, etc) and generally, the prompt must be the focus of the work. Here, as long as you manage to find some creative way to include the prompt, we're happy. And, it doesn't always have to be to the letter. Look back through some of the older submission and you'll see inventive and creative, if odd, interpretations. I've noticed that some now are being innovative with the prompts while others are stick to the word/phrase exactly. Neither way is wrong. Using the prompt to inspire you to write is the only correct way. As long as it jump starts you somehow.

For me, I just to try and figure out what I could write around the prompt. If I could fit it into something I already had going, or what situation/scenerio I could see it happening in. Sometimes it was an exact, word-for-word, use of the prompt. Other times it was a loose and fast interpretation. But, I let it get me writing.

As for the suggestion that there be Q.C. on the prompts? I'm sorry but no. If exists, it can be used. Twisted phrases, odd words, and even, on occasion, people are fair game. I'm sorry if that upsets people.

I think that's enough for now. If there are any question, please use the Contact the Mods page.
