"This should not be happening." Harry sulked, crossing his arms over his chest.
Hermione rolled her eyes in fond exasperation. "We could lock her up in her room for the rest of her life."
"Cut the sarcasm Hermione; it's not funny."
Hermione smiled. "I think it is."
Harry turned away from his grinning wife. "My baby girl should not be going out on a date."
"Your baby girl is almost 16. At least the young man she's going out with is someone you know is a good kid."
"Scorpius Malfoy." Harry humphed.
"Scorpius is a good kid." Hermione said with a tone of reprimand.
"He's a Malfoy." Harry stated as if that explained everything, and to him it did.
"And nothing like Draco was at that age." Hermione bounced back.
Harry stayed silent so Hermione continued. "For one thing, he' a Ravenclaw. Another thing, he doesn't do anything to stand out if you don't count being top of his year. As far as I'm aware, he doesn't participate in any kind of bullying and is always extremely polite, something a teenage Draco knew nothing about."
Harry still stayed silent. "If Scorpius wasn't a nice boy, do you honestly think Lily would be interested? You know I'm right love."
Harry sighed. "Why couldn't she go out with Hugo or Lysander, or one of the other kids our friends had."
Hermione playfully shoved her husband. "Oh please. You would have been just as upset if it was any other boy. Scorpius being a Malfoy is just a good scapegoat." Her tone turned serious. "Honey, Lily is growing up. She's becoming a young lady. You need to learn to accept that."
"I know, but I don't wanna." Harry whined.
"You have to." Hermione stated firmly.
Harry's face was morose as he sulked.
"Be thankful that it's summertime sweetie. Now you can participate in what all fathers have the right to do ... the drilling of the date."
Harry's smile was positively evil, making Hermione laugh merrily.
About a half hour before Scorpius was set to arrive, Harry could be seen knocking on his daughter's door.
"Come in."
Harry smiled. Lily sounded so blissful. He wished he could be happier for her, but she was his precious baby girl and he felt like his was losing her. He opened the door and saw Lily was in front of her mirror, concentrating on getting her hair just right. "Hey Lil."
"Daddy." Lily's smile was radiant, but there was hesitation in her eyes that Harry saw in the mirror.
"I wanted to apologize. I know I've been really pessimistic about this date, but you have to understand. You going on your first date is a sign that you're growing up and that's hard for every parent to go through. You'll understand when you're a mom, which I hope—"
"—won't be for a very long time." Lily finished which made Harry blush embarrassingly. "Daddy, I get it. But I promise you, you can always think of me as your little girl."
"Thanks Lil. Now turn around so I can see you."
Lily does, making sure to twirl a bit.
"You look so beautiful."
"Thanks."
"And remember, If Scorpius tries anything..."
"I'll do the bat boogey hex on him. After all, I learned it from the best."
Harry nodded. "Aunt Ginny will be so proud of you."
The wards alerted them to Scorpius's arrival.
"I better go let him in."
"Daddy, please don't scare him away." Lily begged.
"I'll be good."
"I love you daddy."
"Love you to Lils. Never forget it."
Harry walked out of her bedroom, ready to face his daughter's first date.
