Title: Bond
Prompt: 367 - Possession
Rating: Gen
Summary: Ida and Marcus share a peculiar bond, for better or for worse.

The sensation hadn't been unpleasant at first.

Of course, it was off-putting, feeling someone else's mind settled on your own body, but not as much as Ida had thought it would be. In fact, it was like talking to yourself, except that the second voice had its own way to think, and could positively surprise you. And it wasn't as easy to have it shutting up. With time, though, she got used to the feelings, the sensations, while she learned to know her bodymate. Marcus was good-natured, and rather respectful when it really mattered. And he seemed to take the implantation mistake pretty well.

Lost souls' implantation in volunteers had been practiced for years now, and the technique as well as the protocols had been well thought and tested. Still some mistakes happened every now and then. Every person volunteering in the project knew about it. Of course, everybody knew, but thought it wouldn't happen to them in particular. That's how Ida had felt when she had signed the contract giving the Neuroscience Department the permission to implant someone's soul inside her body for the next three years. Some woman's soul, she had been promised.

Marcus was no woman, that was for sure. And waking up in a female body had been an unpleasant experience for him, at first. He remembered clearly the way he thought about girls when he was alive, and was now afraid to have become one of those delicate beings he had sincerely thought of being unfitted for this world. Ida was torn between amusement and annoyance. Marcus was from another time. He didn't think women were stupid, or unable to take care of themselves, but he had this old, chivalrous way to see the world that made hin think it was a man's duty to carry the heavy objects and to earn the money to make a living. Being in a lady's body had gotten him lost about the life order he had lived by for all his life. It would have been really cute if it hadn't meant he gave Ida old-fashioned advices that didn't fit in her strong-woman way of life, and had the possibility to be very persistent about them.

It was when he began to accept the new life order he was to live by for now that their relationship took a real start and got to the point at which they were now. It was difficult to describe. They were close, that was for sure ; after all, they did occupy the same flesh. They were more than friends, but not like siblings, nor lovers. They were in a grey area between the two, not ready to decide in which direction they were going. None of them was willing to change anything, anyway.

There was some days when they would want nothing more than being separate forever, and others when that simple idea felt too unbearable. They were linked, for better or for worse, by a bond so tight it seemed it would be impossible to break.

The contract ended in a month.
