Andy can't help but smile at the sincerity in Nick's eyes and the hope in the curve of his mouth as he turns away from her into the crowd lining the dance floor. She repeats his words, the promise, over in her head as she watches him disappear and thinks, maybe.

Glancing around the room, she looks for Tracy, catches sight of Sam at the bar instead, where he's nursing what's probably scotch, possibly whiskey. Part of her wants to go over there, get as close as she's allowed, but she realizes that it's not hard to resist that urge. Besides, Sam barely waited six months before moving on with Marlo. They'd been together how long and he'd already moved on by the time she and Nick got back.

But Nick – he's willing to wait for her. And of course she believes him. Months undercover living in each other's pockets and you learn pretty quickly how to spot the difference between the truth and a lie.

So Andy scans the room again, spotting Noelle dancing with Frank, looking elegant and radiant and happy. Even after everything that happened with Luke, the whole debacle of their engagement, she still has dreams of that. Of the white dress and the fairytale, the happily ever after.

Maybe it's the childhood she had that makes her such a hopeless romantic. It had been bleak and real and in every Disney movie she ever watched as a kid, it was the wedding that was the most magical part, that changed everything. Andy's probably been clinging to the fantasy a little too hard, was all too eager to marry Luke despite the secrets between them just for the chance at a happy ending. As much as she loved Sam, deep inside she always knew it wouldn't last forever. She can finally see that now.

Without looking for him, her gaze settles on Nick where he's talking with Dov and Chloe. The grin on his face as he laughs makes Andy feel lighter. He's always had that effect on her, if she's honest, their friendship fast and easy and uncomplicated in all the best ways – which isn't to say they always get along. While undercover, they'd squabbled about TV movies and where to order take-out for dinner and the radio station and laundry detergent, but it was simple enough to compromise. You pick the movie, I'll pick what we're ordering in.

Maybe she's over-thinking this like she does almost everything else in her life. When a server passes with a tray of champagne-filled flutes, Andy takes one with a thank-you and downs half the glass before setting her sights back on Nick.

Every step she takes closer to him feels like moving towards the future, leaving the past behind, both physically and metaphorically. It feels alike a risk and at the same time, it doesn't – especially when the expression on Nick's face warms and softens when he sees her. She returns his smile and again thinks, maybe.
