Summary: Mordred opened his eyes as his alarm clock rang six o'clock. He silenced it automatically, stepped out of bed and walked into the shower.

Mordred opened his eyes as his alarm clock rang six o'clock. He silenced it automatically, stepped out of bed and walked into the shower. The warm water poured on his, rinsing the sweat off his body and chasing the nightmares away. He dried himself quickly and jumped in a pair of jeans and black t-shirt before heading into the kitchen. He stared out of the window as his coffee slowly poured down in the machine. The world below him was starting to slowly wake up too. The early birds were walking out of the apartment building onto the car park or to the bus stop. Sometimes he wondered if there was ever more than this routine in life but this day, he stared blankly until he heard the last gurgle of the coffee machine. He poured himself a cup and toasted some bread to eat. He leaned against the wall, slowly sipping the black liquid. Half an hour later it was his turn to wait for the bus.

When he finally arrived at university, he stepped out of the bus, slid his student badge over his head and walked into the library. He returned a few of his books and borrowed some new ones for the module to come. Only then did he go to the kitchen, changed into his uniform and waited for the professor to arrive. The day ticked away as he listened and work on his food. As the clock on the wall rang five o'clock, he was sent away with the rest of the student. He hand his uniform back in his locker and walked to the library once more. There he settled for a few hours to complete his assignments. Once he was happy with his work, he left. It was dark outside and the crowd of commuters was already home. The bus that brought him back home was nearly empty.

He cooked himself dinner and ate it silently, his eyes gazing vaguely at the news on the television. He washed the dishes before going to bed. Another day had gone and he hadn't hurt anyone. He thought it had been a successful day as his eyes closed. He hoped the nightmares would stay away as a reward for his good behaviour but he doubted he would be this lucky.

The following day, Mordred rose once more at the sound of his alarm clock breaking the string of nightmares that had taken hold of him in his sleep. He showered, cook and ate breakfast, and finally got out of his apartment to wait for the bus. It was only another day to live through. He had survived so many, they all started to blur into one another. There was never anything to mark each day as different from the other, not fundamentally.

He closed his eyes for an instant, opening them just as the bus arrived. He stepped in and went to his seat but someone was already occupying it. He sat next to the young man and waited for the bus to move once more. It was only a dozen stops before he would reach the university. The young man turned to him and extended his hand in greeting.

"Hi. I'm Gail."

Mordred blinked at the man for an instant before shaking his hand politely. "I'm Mordred," he replied automatically. He thought for an instant that it was unusual for a strange to address him in the bus, but if the man wanted to talk, he could easily indulge. He would never see him again anyway and his routine would be back to normal the following day.
