Prompt #488 Elixir
Note : This one is on the good week!

“It’s the bloody 21st century, Keiron. Nobody uses elixirs anymore.”

Keiron frowned, but kept the vial in front of Mona’s face. “It’s not because everyone travels by car now that walking doesn’t work anymore”, he argued back. “I admit it doesn’t work as fast as some of modern medicine’s drugs, but since you won’t go to a hospital, that’s the best I can do. So stop whining and drink up.”

Mona glared at him, but finally extended her left arm to take the vial. She winced when a fresh cut on her biceps shifted and stretched painfully, but didn’t stop her movement. She undid the cap of the little bottle with a finger, and swallowed the content without taking her eyes away from Keiron.

“That’s disgusting”, she grumbled.

Keiron smiled. “That’s my girl. Now, show me that cut.”

Mona looked sternly at him, raising her eyebrows while she designated the very unpractical location of her wound with a movement of the head. Keiron didn’t comment and got up to his feet to reach her other side, where we had a better view if the cut. The wall against which Mona was sitting got a bit in the way of his right arm’s movements, but he doubted he would need much precision to treat the superficial wound.

“You’re lucky, it’s pretty much a scratch. You won’t even need stitches.”

“It’s already too much”, Mona mumbled. “I should have avoided it altogether. What was in that bottle of yours? I feel groggy.”

Keiron smiled mischievously. “You’re too slow because you haven’t slept in how many days? Even you need to rest to stay at your top. So I’ve spiked the elixir with a bit of modern medicine’s sandman help. I wished I wasn’t forced to drug you to get you to sleep.”

“Bastard”, Mona mumbled, her head already feeling heavy. Keiron didn’t respond and instead busied himself cleaning and bandaging her arm wound. When he was sure she was asleep, he took her up with difficulty and brought her to her bed. He wasn’t as strong as she was, and it didn’t bother him, except in situations like this when a little extra strength would have been of great use. However, lifting boxes of books with ease wasn’t worth the genetical experiments and mental damages they created in Mona.

Hopefully, the woman was out for at least a couple of hours, and as seductive as it sounded, Keiron didn’t want to be away when she woke up. She would be pissed, of course, but it wouldn’t last. None of them had time to get mad for long.

He went to the kitchen to fix himself a cup of tea to keep him company while Mona was out. He opened a couple of cupboards before finding a box of plain black tea, dusty and likely purchased in a fit of good host-ness for people like him. The expiration date was slightly exceeded, but it would do.

He cleaned himself a cup while the water was boiling in the electric kettle, and went back to the small living room with his cup and a tupperware cover for a saucer. Settling in the old couch, he opened an ebook on his phone and waited for his friend to wake up.
