Summary: So much wasted time…but at least we had today and tomorrow to make it right.
We’d just had the morning scoobie meeting, as she liked to call it, and I’d walked with her to the front entrance of the school.
The first bell was still ringing in my ears and I called out a quick good bye. I’d just turned to run back in, when she called out my name.
“Hey, B.”
I turned around with a raised brow, “yeah?”
The sun was just behind her and a soft glow was surrounding her body, “So, I’ll see you after you get out of this prison,” she asked, nodding her head at the doors behind me.
I gave her a quick smile, “sure.” and then...
She smiled back...it was slow at first, a small movement of lips, a tiny curve upwards, spreading all the way to her eyes.
As her face transformed, I could see the youthfulness she tried desperately to hide, and I felt it...like I do every time she smiles.
Those small tingles in my stomach.
“Cool, see ya later, B.”
“Bye,” I called out as she hopped down the steps, taking three at a time. At the very last step she turned around and waved.
I waved back, and I could hear a soft chuckle spill from her lips. It traveled to my ears by way of the warm breeze and I let out a small sigh.
I knew I was going to be late, but I keep watching until she was out of sight.
As I walked back in, he approached me from the shadows.
His arms and legs covered in black and a frown on his handsome face.
“Will I see you later tonight?” he asked, his brown eyes trying to rot into mine.
I felt a shudder go through me, “I’m not sure...Faith and I...”
He sighed and looked away.
“I’m hearing that a lot these days,” he said.
His smelt like ash and mold.
“What?”
“Faith and I,” he said, looking back at me and I could sense he was pleading for something I couldn’t begin to give him.
“We’re getting close.” I stated, because it was true, I couldn’t deny it.
“And us,” he asked, taking a step back and with it, the shadows he created.
“We’ll never be friends.”
He stilled for a moment, and then I saw a tiny flash of light shine in his eyes.
Light in all that dark...and I knew I wasn’t the one who put it there. I never was.
“Taking advice from a vampire?” he asked.
“It’s not a crazy notion, seeing as how I dated his grandsire.”
He nodded his head and looked past me...far, far past me, light years away from where we stood. “She’ll make it easier for you?’ he asked.
How could I say no...When everything before her had been so hard, “yeah, or—I’m hoping so.”
“will he?” I asked.
He looked surprised for a moment, but the brick wall that I’d never even begun to crack, came back up, “no, the last thing he is...is easy.”
I chuckled, because there was nothing else I could do but chuckle.
“When?”
He tilted his head, “do you want me gone so soon?”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, “you know that’s not what I meant.”
“I know,” and he reached out to touch me. His cold hands stole my heat and I instantly pushed away.
His eyes filled with sadness...the only express I got, other than a blank stare.
I missed her wild flower scent and brown vivid eyes intensely at that moment. I wanted her to run back in and surround me with her life.
Because she was like the belt of Orion, the one I saw every time the stars came out…so clear and bright, and only a blind person could over look.
So much wasted time…but at least we had today and tomorrow to make it right.
“Find him, tell him how you feel,” I give him a tiny smile that said I understand, and goodbye, “tell him you’re a bitch for love too.”
He shakes his head and gives a chuckle of laughter that sounds nice and unexpected on him.
“He’d never believe it.”
“No, not until you prove it to him.” I say, reaching out and touching him...He needs some of the heat anyways.
“Don’t waste anymore time on me,” I whisper and his eyes say the same.
