“Have you packed yet?” Sirius asked as he came up from behind Hermione, wrapping his arm over her shoulder. Hermione laughed, shaking her head as she raised a brow.

“No, and continuously asking me isn’t going to make me pack any faster.” She replied, hooking her fingers into his hand that hung from her shoulder.

“Well, I’m sorry but I tend to get excited when break is coming up. This time, I have two reasons to be excited. Not only will I get out from under the eye of McGonagall but I’ll get to spend it with my girlfriend, who is actually excited to spend time with me.”

“Not just you,” Hermione teased, “I really want to see James play Quidditch.” Sirius stopped as Hermione kept walking, she glanced back to see the disappointment spread over his face.

“You’re not serious.” He started.

“No, you are actually.” She grinned, “But after hearing Lily talk about how great James’ body is from playing Quidditch all the time I just can’t help but want to take a look. Who knows, I may drool.” Hermione laughed as she glanced over her shoulder again. She enjoyed teasing him because it annoyed him and it amused her. His face had been priceless and really showed his discomfort at the idea of being cast out in her mind, and to make it worse he was being cast out for James.

“You’re joking,” Sirius said, catching up to her, “You couldn’t possibly mean that you’d rather look at James then me.”

“I guess you’ll never know,” Hermione replied, teasing in her tone, “Besides, even if I’m not done packing, you’d offer to help and then there’s no way I could finish. Plus, I don’t want you in my underwear drawer.” She reached down and took his hand as they neared the Fat Lady’s portrait. Sirius squeezed her hand and then before she could react, he pulled her into a corner.

His fingers dug into his hips; while Hermione tried to break free she bit her lower lip and glanced up at him. His hold stayed strong.

“I’ve seen quite a bit of your underwear, pet,” Sirius teased with his breath against her neck. Hermione gave a small sigh as her fingers rested on his arms. She felt his muscles tighten as he pressed himself against her. “And you best remember, I’m the one that made you moan last night. Not. James.” He added.

As he moved away from her, Hermione sent him a disgruntled look. “Fine, you win.” She murmured. Sirius slowly grinned as he leaned down and kissed her forehead.

“Good,” He said, “Now can I help you pack?” Both laughed as they walked up to the Fat Lady and murmured the password, walking into the common room. Neither of them saw the small, topaz colored eyes watching them from across the hall.

“Do you have a report for me, Wormtail?”

“T-they’re going to James’ home.” Peter said softly, almost squeaking. He gave out a girly yell as he was grabbed by the front of the shirt.

“What did I tell you about saying that name?”

“S-sorry, but that’s where they’re going. I didn’t get t-told much more but I do know that t-they’ll be there, the w-whole break.” Peter managed to stutter out as his shirt was released and he cowered in the corner, “Y-you’re not going to h-hurt me, are you?” He asked.

“No, as much as it pains me to say this, you’re actually useful.”

“You’re n-not going to make me g-go to him are you?” Peter asked, still cowering.

“Of course not, you idiot, I’ll do this one myself. There’s little you can be trusted with. How would I know if you’re double crossing me?”

“I-I wouldn’t.” Peter replied.

“We’ll see about that.”

Hermione and Lily grinned as they walked outside, shielding her eyes, Hermione glanced up and saw that both James and Sirius were flying around on their brooms. She had never been one for flying, she hated it as a matter of fact but that didn’t mean she didn’t enjoy watching from the ground.

“I still can’t believe James’ parents allowed us all to come here,” She said softly as she and Lily walked around, bundled up in jackets and scarves.

“James’ parents aren’t really concerned with what he does or doesn’t do,” Lily said softly, “I mean, they’re his parents and they love him but they don’t really care about what he does if it doesn’t involve school. Just so long as he is safe and doesn’t get in trouble I guess they let him do what he wants.”

“They must’ve felt horrible for Sirius,” Hermione said, glancing behind them as the banter between James and Sirius grew louder.

“I don’t know about that one, James doesn’t really talk about Sirius’ family. I guess he’s already made Sirius his brother so in his mind so the Black family doesn’t really exist.” Lily smiled as she heard a little bit of name calling between the two.

“I can see why, the portrait of Sirius’ mother is annoying, I can’t imagine what the actual flesh and blood is like.” Hermione said.

“What?” Lily asked, “What portrait of Sirius’ mother?”

“Uh, the um, one he told me about.” Hermione said quickly.

“Sirius hasn’t been home in over a year and a half, he wouldn’t know about any portrait of his mother. And if he had he certainly would’ve mentioned it so he could mock it,” Lily said, “What are you hiding, Hermione?”

“Nothing,” Hermione cut in. Lily watched her with steady green eyes as she sighed and looked down, her hands shifting in her coat pockets.

“Look, I didn’t want to say anything. Things just, aren’t matching up with what you’re telling people and you’ve become such a good friend to me that I’d hate to find out it’s all a lie. I mean you tell Sirius that I told you about the nicknames the boys had for one another and I had never even heard of them, but I didn’t tell James that because I figured you’d tell me about it later. You’re just lucky that James thought he had told me and just forgot, so it didn’t’ even matter.”

“Lily, I,” Hermione started.

“Just, let me finish. I guess I can understand if you don’t want to say anything, but please, don’t lie to me.” Lily murmured, “I’ve already gone through that with Severus, and I’d hate to lose another friend.”

As Lily walked away and back toward the boys, Hermione bit the inside of her cheek to keep
the tears that were forming from falling down her face. She should’ve known that getting involved in everything would screw up the past and she hadn’t wanted to do that, but being stuck in this time with no clear hope of ever returning, Hermione let out a sigh.

“Lily,” She shouted after her friend, “Wait, I need to talk to you.”
