Contact-a-Mod

Hello all,

I hope everyone had a fantastic day.

We're introducing a new feature here to allow you to contact the Mods. It's difficult with having multiple mods to receive questions and answer them in a timely manor because we all do mod posts. So what we've done is created another, shadow mod.

Any comments on posts made by this shadow mod will be forwarded to all of us, so we can answer things more quickly.

We're also going to try to start doing mod posts with this user account as well, and post a link to this post on the sidebar so you can contact us easily.

It's a new system, so there's bound to be some bumps with it, but hopefully it will make things easier in the long run.

~Your tamingmods!

I've now added your author tag to those entries and in future you can find your tag from the list so you can tag your entries yourself as well. My apologies for missing those entries in the past.

I'm new! Just posted my first one :)

Can I please have a tag? :D

I will and thank you so much! :D

I've been a member of Taming the Muse for a while, but I'm about to make my first submission. I'm currently planning on sending it as a Word file attachment to an e-mail; where do I send it? Or, if that's not acceptable, how *do* I send it?

Thanks.

No need to send it to us. You either post it, or a link, to the community, which ever is up to you. Just remember to just an ljcut. And don't forget to tag it.

Okay, here's where I show my tail end. I don't know how to do any of that. Can I get the step-by-step "for dummies" version? ;D

Okay, to revise my earlier reply, I think I've figured out how to post to the community, but what's ljcut? And how do I tag?

Re: submissions

[identity profile] xocoatldreams.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Lj cut is a way to hide most of the post. At the beginning (usual after the header) you put in <*lj-cut*> and at the end of the post <*/lj-cut*> (remove the *s). Now, if you post from the community page and post under the Rich Text format, there is a button for the ljcut right beside the 'insert table' button. (it looks like lines of text with a wavy line underneath)

As for the tags, at the bottom of the post page there's a section that says 'tags'. I'll set up your username so you'll go through, highlight your names and highlight the current prompt (ie, this week is prompt 263-haven(picture)). Each week you use your name tag and the corrosponding week prompt tag, it's how we keep track of how many posts you make.

Did that make sense? If you need more help, just ask

Okay, I got it. Is the cut required? This is a very short post, so it seems kind of a waste of bytes... ;D

We ask that people put them under cuts because it cuts down on the clutter. A lot of people are on dialup and it makes it easier on them. surprisingly, it's not a waste of bytes :D

Hi there! So, I just discovered this community, and I have a question. Is it possible for someone to write both for the Goddess level as well for the smaller awards? (I'm assuming that if this is possible, two fics per week will be the requirement)

[identity profile] catw00man.livejournal.com 2011-08-28 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes you can! And you're on the right track. I actually collected all the preGoddess awards myself on my way to 4yrs. :-) The way we've worked this out is you would write 2 fics a week and post with 2 accounts. One would be your main account you'd be working toward Goddess and beyond with, and the other could be another account you either already have or create for this purpose. This is just for the mod's sanity. ;-)

With the early awards you would for example write 3 weeks, take a week off, write 6 weeks, take a week off etc until you collect them all. You would be working on the one for Goddess concurrently with these. If you want to see all the awards you can collect in one place, lol, I have them all on my profile.

Anyway, I hope this answers all your questions! :-D

Cool! Thanks :)About the Goddess awards, when it says cash in, does that mean that you have to start from the beginning with the 30 weeks all over again once you cash it in? Or does it mean that as you go along, and as long as you don't miss any weeks, you can collect each award?

[identity profile] catw00man.livejournal.com 2011-08-28 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You had it the first time. Basically every week you make past 30 goes into a bank because you can't "cash in" your first 30. So say once you hit 40 weeks you could "cash in" 10 for the 40 week banner. But then you would be back to 0 in your over Goddess bank. I believe the reason they did it this way was to give us something to work towards for a long time. To be honest I have all my over Goddess weeks to cash in!

I hope that makes sense. As you can see there are awards to collect without cashing in post Goddess as well. These come about twice a year. Then when you reach 4 yrs you may come and go as you please without losing any of the weeks you have accumulated. :-)

I hope that's clear. if not, please ask and I'll try to explain better. LOL

Haha, no, you explained it fine :) Just final question before I start posting...

Can I use the prompt given each week for multi-chapter stories? And if I do, is there a requirement that every chapter following must also be inclusive of the weekly prompt?

I ask this cause I am currently writing a multi-chapter (30 chapters in) and I'd like to use the prompts as inspiration.

[identity profile] catw00man.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You can use the prompt for anything you like. For my "second run" awards I primarily used this very long piece I was writing and posted 500+ words each week if I could work in the prompt. If I couldn't I posted something else. As long as you meet the 500 word minimum and work in the prompt somehow it is perfectly fine to TBC things.

Also, as an aside about the prompts, they don't have to be used literally, as in you don't have to use the word itself. It's perfectly fine if you do but you can also write something inspired by the prompt as well and it's perfectly within the rules. Each week is a separate challenge so nothing has to carry over from week to week unless you want it to.

I hope that answered what you were asking. :-D

You're amazing with giving answers, you know? ;) Just one final teensy, tiny question. Can I, instead of writing with two different accounts tell you which thing I'm aiming for in the title itself?

Eg: - Prompt number - Prompt - Story Title - mihnn - Fandom
- Prompt number - Prompt - Story Title - mihnn2 - Fandom

Then you can make two separate tags, right?
