Contact-a-Mod
May. 11th, 2008 07:30 pmHello all,
I hope everyone had a fantastic day.
We're introducing a new feature here to allow you to contact the Mods. It's difficult with having multiple mods to receive questions and answer them in a timely manor because we all do mod posts. So what we've done is created another, shadow mod.
Any comments on posts made by this shadow mod will be forwarded to all of us, so we can answer things more quickly.
We're also going to try to start doing mod posts with this user account as well, and post a link to this post on the sidebar so you can contact us easily.
It's a new system, so there's bound to be some bumps with it, but hopefully it will make things easier in the long run.

Question
Date: 2008-07-07 08:24 am (UTC)There was a post saying this weeks prompt is "Temptation", does that mean we need to write a fanfic based on that word and our interpretation of it with any fandom and character(s)/couple(s)? They are due on Sat by midnight of what time zone exactly?
Re: Question
Date: 2008-07-07 09:25 am (UTC)The stories need to be posted by midnight on Saturday according to any time zone you are in. The main thing is that you need to have the story timestamped on Saturday.
I hope this helped. Please feel free to ask if there are any other questions.

Date: 2008-07-27 06:20 am (UTC)This is no reflection on any member or mod. My life has changed (quite a bit, actually) and I don't have the time to spend writing as much as I used to--or even spending any amount of time online. I have enjoyed the community and the whole ideal behind it, but when I stare at a blank screen and it is harder to write than it is not to, it's time to bow out gracefully.
Thank you all for the gorgeous award from last week. It has been a memorable and wonderful two years, but I need to move on. I've learned a lot from reading and writing here and will always recommend it. You've all done a fantastic job modding the community--it certainly isn't easy keeping track of all of the awards and such and you've done great with all of it.
Maybe sometime down the line I'll come back. Until then, good night, God Bless, and good luck.

Date: 2008-07-27 03:32 pm (UTC)I understand why though; utterly and completely. Two years is a hell of a mark to leave on, and I'm so happy you were here for those two years with me.
Any of the prompts ever tickles your fancy, you're free to post in for that week. You're always welcome here.
And you're not scooting off my f-list that easy! LOL You better not be; I can be okay with letting go of a Taming member, but I'm not cool with letting go of an incredible friend. ^_^
*hugs again*

Date: 2008-09-06 03:33 pm (UTC)1. Does 'timestamp' just mean the time and date on the post? I.e., if I post at the correct time in my timezone and the post shows that then that's all I have to do? There's no additional verification process?
2. Is it okay to vary fandoms (and original) from week to week? You don't have to stick to just one?
3. Do fics/stories have to be posted to the community, or can they be posted in my own journal and linked to from a post in the community?
I also just want to say that I love the idea of this community. I think that the complicated and unique prompts are much more interesting than in other communities I've seen. I'm starting a masters degree in the last week of September, and I have to see what the workload is going to be like, but provided it isn't horrendous (and I'm not expecting it to be) I'd very much like to join and participate in your community. I used to write a lot and I've been struggling for the last few months. Maybe motivation like this is exactly what I need.

Date: 2008-09-06 03:41 pm (UTC)I think I'm right that you say a chapter of something longer is acceptable? How does that work in terms of your voting - particularly in terms of the plot section? Obviously characters and grammar are unaffected by something only being a section of a longer whole, but one chapter might not have anything resembling a cohesive plot - especially if it's only a part of a chapter.

Date: 2008-09-06 04:31 pm (UTC)Also, an unrelated question, but just out of interest: how many of you are there with long runs of many many weeks? Is it a bit community? - I can see there are lots of members, but nothing like that many 'entries' posted last week.

Date: 2008-09-06 06:42 pm (UTC)On your chapter question, the plot can be seen as anything from the original plot is continuing, the characters have discovered something, the characters move from one place to another to build up the plot that's going to really get going in a few chapters...anything that really adds to the original idea and keeps you interested, to me, would be something I'd look for when I vote.
And those with long runs...there's quite a few who've hit past the 30 week mark, which is goddess. A few more have reached the 75 week mark, which is where you get to add a prompt of your own to the list, and it'll be done the following week. The latest one is the 104 week mark, which is the 2 year mark. I've been here, with quite a few others, from the beginning of the comm. I know of a lot of courageous writers who've been here for many many weeks, but have taken breaks to earn the awards each week.
Many of the writers will also just take personal breaks, if they need to. You're allowed to step out and jump back in whenever. Obviously the more weeks in a row you get, the higher the reward, but sometimes, RL insists on having its way. ^_^
Take a peek at the goings-on for the next few weeks, and feel free to jump in whenever. The new prompt will be chosen tonight (we try to post earlier on Saturdays because while I'm over in the USA, a lot of our members are 'cross the pond), and you'll be able to see the entires added in over the week. ...Most everyone posts late on Saturday. Like me. *sheepish grin* Which is totally acceptable, as the wonderful Calypso explained.
If you've got any more questions, feel free to ask. ^_^

Date: 2008-10-12 02:10 pm (UTC)So I have a few questions first.
1. Do I have to introduce myself somewhere? Or can I just pop my head in and say 'Hi! I'm new!' in my first entry?
2. I read the minimum word count is 500 words. I write drabbles, and double drabbles among other things, so is it okay if I post enough to reach the 500 words?
3. I also write screenplays. Is this format allowed here?
4. Can I wrote an entry for both this community and another one?
5. Finally, where do I tell you how many weeks I want to play? Also, if I pick a number of weeks and feel like continuing do I have to start all over again, or can I just continue to reach another level?
I think that's it for now. I'm sorry if my questions have been answered before.
Thanks for your answers :)

Date: 2008-10-12 02:56 pm (UTC)Then to your questions:
1. No need for introductions. Just post your first entry. If you want you can mention that it's your first entry, but that's not compulsory *g*
2 & 3. You can post in any format you want. The only requirement we have is that the story needs to reach the 500 words minimum limit and be on continous story. To clarify, you can't really submit an entry where you write a hundred word drabble about the prompt and then 400 hundred words about something completely else. The 500 words needs to be one story.
4. You can cross post the entry as much as you like. You also don't have to post the entry to the community, you can just link it from your personal journal or whatever place you post it to
5. You don't have to tell us how many weeks your goal is. Just submit as many entries as you feel like. If on some week you don't submit an entry, you'll get the award you earned the following week
I do hope these answers helped. If something was left unclear or you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Date: 2008-10-12 03:08 pm (UTC)You pretty much answered all my questions, no drabbles then, I'll try to remember that. What about scripts?
If I have other questions, I'll get back to you, then. Thanks!

Date: 2008-11-06 03:08 pm (UTC)Can I post dialogue-only stories and still have them accepted as an answer to a given prompt?

Date: 2009-01-12 03:35 am (UTC)I think I will start with the Clio Award. Just to make sure I understand this correctly. I will need to write a story for 6 consecutive weeks and earn at least a 7 in all categories. Then to move on to a higher award I will need to take a week off and start at week one again. Do I need to let you know which award I am going for?
Thanks so much. I am sure i will have more questions, but I will try not to make a pest of myself.
Thanks, Tena
Prompt 134: Posting Difficulty!
Date: 2009-02-15 12:03 pm (UTC)Is my run over? I really didn't mean to be late posting. I didn't even realize I'd be counted as "late" at this time since it's such a silly hour for me to be up at anyway. (I worked thirds tonight.)
I'm so very sorry.

Date: 2009-04-08 04:41 am (UTC)I was double checking my count to see when I needed to end my run to get the next award when I noticed that I had neglected to tag my entry for prompt 135 "nihilism". It's tagged now, but I just wanted to give you a heads up about it for record keeping purposes. Thanks! :D

Date: 2009-04-09 02:06 am (UTC)I just checked, and I already had you down for having written that week, but you are so sweet to have let us know! I generally go through the recent entries of the community until I hit the post where the new prompt was introduced, so as not to miss anyone. Going through the tags can mean missing someone for the records, so what I do is a little more time consuming, but I don't leave anyone out. However, tagging makes all the mods very happy, so thank you! ^_^

A small question...
Date: 2009-04-17 03:59 pm (UTC)first, I'd like to apologize if you already got my e-mail with the same question. Due to computer troubles I cannot log in to LJ, nor be sure if my e-mails really get out.
Anyway, my question is: Does the challenge run end if one is not able to post to the community/LJ due to technical difficulties like for example a virus blocking near to all login pages?
Thanks in advance,
- delilahdraken
Re: A small question...
Date: 2009-04-17 06:55 pm (UTC)I'll try to be online at the time, but I'm not sure it'll be possible even if I ignore the time difference.
Would an e-mail to this address do the job as well?

Date: 2009-04-21 05:07 pm (UTC)This wasn't so much a question as an offer for help (if you even need it!). I've noticed it's been awhile since we've had any weekly updates and I wanted to offer to help with banners. You can check out my work here: http://www.cryptoffic.com/seasonwrite/springwrite/spw2009awards2.html#mar2009
Just let me know if you need any help. Catch you later.
