Sep. 10th, 2008 12:37 pmTitle: Points in Time (Part 1)
Author: tigerstriped86
Fandom/Pairing: TW/BtVS crossover; Dawn/Xander (Watcher), Toshiko/Xander, possible Ianto/Xander
Rating: PG
Prompt 112: Eidetic
Summary: Dawn tries to rescue Xander from Torchwood (Series 2 cast). But Jack won't release him. Why in the devil would Xander need a talisman and why is he fused with so much residual energy from the Rift?
Disc.: Nope. Not aunty Beeb, TW, DW or affiliates (although if someone wanted to get me the sonic screwdriver from Think Geek it would be much appreciated) or anyone associated with Buffy, Dark Horse, Mutant Enemy. The list goes on and on, okay? Written for fun and not profit.
Personal note: Found a computer and a job! Yay! Long live ttm!!!
It was easy to throw the dictionary at him in fury. It was the closest semi-heavy object next to Dawn and it confirmed a volley of suspicion she wished to throw his way. Owen was speechless to say the least.
"Would you calm down, love?"
"Do not tell me to calm down! You've captured my Watcher!" Dawn was pratically screaming in an unnatural tone that reminded Jack vaguely of mythological sirens. He watched, half bemused and half following the desperation in Gwen's eyes.
"Now, Ms. Summers. I'm sure we can all calm down and agree that this was possibly the best for observational purposes. We don't believe Xander poses so much of a threat..."
"And yet we locked him up. Imagine that." Ianto let his eyebrows quirk upward, fascinated by the tantrum of the young girl. Toshiko made no pretense of her nerves and looked down hastily at her half-eaten chips.
Dawn turned on Gwen, who was trying to imitate a relaxed leaning posture. "Don't talk to me like I'm a child. I demand to know what Xander Harris has done to deserve this treatment. After which, not only will you release him but you will apologize."
"My, aren't we demanding for such a young age?"
"Age has nothing to do with it...what was it...Captain Harkness?"
"I think we can all agree to calm down."
"Gwen, sometimes people just don't calm down." Owen emphasized his annoyance with air quotes.
"At least let me see him." Dawn's head of steam deflated. Channeling her older sister before the meltdown was difficult to say the least. She had even resorted to the tactic that had worked on Spike, namely pouting. But Jack was stern and unmoved.
"Sorry." Jack shook his head and Dawn looked around.
"You'll regret this. I promise you. You haven't heard the last of us!" Dawn turned in a huff.
"Was it wise to capture him?" Ianto spoke first to the Captain as he transferred a full cup of Colombian blend onto his cluttered desk.
"We had no choice. He was more of a danger to himself than anything. Not even wearing his talisman. It was a wonder he hadn't died yet."
"Eidetic." Ianto sporodically mentioned from the back corner near the blinds.
"Come again?" Owen turned and glared at Ianto in a questioning manner.
"I believe he had a moment of pure lucidity. Xander knew what he was doing. Perhaps he thought he'd avert the future by changing the past. It was an accurate thought by someone labeled a hero so many times. Dangerous thoughts could be welling in the that head of his." Ianto seemed to be talking half to himself and half to the rest of the room.
"How long can we wait until the rogue faction of the Council comes asking too many questions?" Gwen craned her head at Jack in a glance, moving back from Ianto's little diatribe. A lot of factors made sense to his theory but something was still missing. There was a puzzle piece he hadn't referred to yet.
"Hopefully UNIT can distract them until we can figure out what to do with him."
"But why did we have to lock him up?" Toshiko was hopeful that Xander might come to himself. She remembered her time behind bars. She hoped he would come to his senses. They could use someone like him on the team. And she had a vague sense they had met before.
"Too much residual energy, Toshiko. That's not the same Xander Harris."
