Title: Communication Breakdown, part 2
Fandom: RPF (Supernatural)
Prompt: 120 – Window
Rating: PG
Summary: Suddenly communication breaks down between Jensen and Jared.
Notes: Unbetaed!

Part 1

Jared is sitting by the window, ferchristsake, waiting like the father of a teenager. Sure, his settee is awfully comfortable and he does need to read the script for tomorrow, but he's been staring at the same line for half-an-hour. Each time a motor purrs in the vicinity he lifts his eyes up, but no, it's not Jensen, not yet. This is such bullshit. He gets up, and for a second, he wishes he was still with Sandy. At least he could call her and have phone sex or something.

The fact is that he's bored. He's been so used to having Jensen around all the time that it feels empty without him, even if Jensen's only out for dinner. Jared goes to his improvised gym and does weights until ten. Then he showers and goes to bed. He makes a point of avoiding the window, though he's sure he's heard noise and that Jensen's probably in already.

"Hot date, last night?" Jared asks as soon as they're out of the driveway.

Jensen shrugs. It was certainly not, but there's something he can't quite define in Jared's tone that irritates him.

"Yeah," he lies.

"Oh? Who is it? Anyone I know?" Jared asks, bristling with curiosity.

Jensen rolls his eyes at himself. Of course Jared would want to know. Lying just because was stupid and pointless and now he's even more irritated than before. "Nope," he answers as dryly as he can.

"I see you're not in a talking mood today," Jared says looking out the window. He sounds slightly miffed, but he's probably just hurt and Jensen feels guilty and then even more irritated at Jared because he's making him feel guilty.

They drive the rest of the way in surly silence.

The day is bloody awful. The tension between Dean and Sam is shooting off the screen and everybody is so happy at their wonderful acting... only that it isn't acting, not really. As much as he tries to think it through, Jared can't figure out what's been up Jensen's ass. He tries to chat during the coffee breaks, scene rehearsals, makeup retouch, and Jensen almost sounds like himself when people are around. As soon as they are left alone, Jensen retreats into an awkward silence.

Jared hates scenes, always has, so he avoids confrontation, as much as he's itching to ask Jensen just what the hell is going on. After the lunch break, he stops trying all together and starts wondering if there is really something between them of if Jensen needs to do this to get Dean right. Because right now Dean is fucking pissed at Sam. Jared finds himself wanting to kick Dean on the sheens.

When they call it a day, Jim asks them out for a beer. They exchange uneasy glances but Jensen pats Jim's back.

"Sure thing, man. Let's go to Malone's. I wanna play some pool."

Jim rolls his eyes. "I don't have money to lend you, you know."

Jared laughs. Jensen is known for loving the game and being hopeless at it. Jensen snorts, not offended and the mood clears up.

The evening is great. A few other crew members join them and they end up having an impromptu party. Jared is being is cheerful self, talking to everybody, buying rounds of beer, and Jensen is playing with some guys, and winning for a change. They order steaks and fries and the day's tension is completely forgotten by the time they go home.

They drive in silence again, but this time it's relaxed and easy, as it ought to be. They say goodnight and each go their way. Jensen sighs as he closes his door. The beer buzz is almost wearing out, but he doesn't care – he still feels good. He throws his jacket on the couch, heels off his boots by the corridor and drops the rest of his clothes on the floor before dropping on the bed. He's been an ass. He'll make it up to Jared.
