Summary: He would never forget what had happened.

Author’s Notes: So I couldn’t help myself. I saw this movie today and had to write something (and had to stop myself from doing a SPN crossover with it). I suggest everyone go and see this movie, there is heavy spoilers for the entire thing here so beware.

Some nights he would wake up screaming her name. The room was dark and all he could see was the glare of the light on his face, the warm spray of Warden’s blood on his skin. For years his showers were supervised. There was always someone to step in and stop him from scrubbing his face off.

She never came though, and he would get little bits and pieces of what she was doing from him.

She was Sarah Palmer now, she had married Axel, and they had a son.

She was happy.

She had moved on.

He was still stuck in the nightmare of what had happened ten years ago. He could still feel Warden’s presence bearing down on him and that sick twist in his gut told him that he deserved it. He had been the one to screw up. He had been the reason those men had been stuck in the mine with Warden.

Nothing was going to ever change that.

It didn’t matter how many drugs they administered to him, either by stabbing his arm or shoving them down his throat.

He was never going to forget the feel of the blood coating his face and the distant roar of the vehicle as they left him behind. He could still hear the echoes of her screaming his name. But she had left, left him with Warden.

No one understood. He had spent seven years locked up in that place shaking each night from the flashes of a nightmare he couldn’t escape and no one understood. No one knew him. Knew who he was or what he had done.

No one cared.

Then they gave him some pills. The perfect combination to keep him sane and normal. The perfect combination to let him back into normal society. But he hadn’t been ready. He had been out for almost 3 years and each day ate him up inside.

The fear.

The rage.

The nightmares.

None of it had gone away.

Then he had come and he had known everything. He had understood what it was like to be forgotten, to be lost. The only person that had understood was Martin. Because Martin was Harry Warden’s bastard son with a local black woman.

And it was Martin that had convinced him to come back after his father had died. Because he knew that Tom needed to come to terms with what had happened. He had been the one to show him where Burke, Riggs, and his father buried Warden all those years ago.

He had understood what Tom needed to do.

Because they all needed to pay for what they had done to him. They had left him alone in that mine, that had left him alone in that mental institute for 7 years. He had done the same thing to those men, he had left them alone with Warden, and he had been paying for it ever since.

It was the good old Deputy Martin that he went to after he had escaped the mine again. Because the Deputy knew him, the Deputy hadn’t forgotten about him.
