Summary: Elle makes a different decision, she decides to help Peter and Claire.
Elle had two options, two paths she could take. That was clear to her. She could stay, help Claire get Peter to safety. Or she could go to Pinehurst. She could get the answers she needed. She wanted to turn her back on them. But they both had helped her. She could still remember the way Claire had offered her her hand, offered to help her when even her own power was out of her control. She remembered Peter locked inside that monsters body screaming for Sylar to leave her alone.
No matter how hard she tried she couldn’t forget that, she couldn’t forget them.
Gritting her teeth she muttered “C’mon cheerleader, we’re not getting any safer standing around here.” she slipped around Peter’s waist his arm settling over her shoulders mirroring the way Claire was supporting him.
Peter leaned on both of the girls confused at what had happened with his father and now known brother. His nemesis. Right now all he knew is that he needed to get out of here. He was still alive for some reason and he couldn't jeopardize the lives of the women with him. "We need to get out of here right now?" He especially couldn't put Claire in any kind of danger. He had to protect her. He had to make sure she wouldn’t become the person she was in the future.
Now that he didn't have his powers tit would be even harder to protect her. Even Elle couldn't stand against them. Not with Sylar on their father’s side. He knew that she was different from them and that she with them helping them right now for her own reasons.
They headed in the direction of the car and Elle felt it build up inside her again. She could keep it down, but not for long. She was walking away from the one place that could help her, and for what? Because the two wannabe heroes had done the good thing and saved her life even when she didn’t deserve it.
As they continued heading towards the car he saw Elle acting weirdly, she seemed to have an expression of pain on her face. Although he wanted to ask her what was happening and why where they here. He needed to get out of this place more. Both of the girls helped him get in. As they all got in the car Claire was asking what was going on. "I will explain later," was all he said as he tried to breath.
“And I am sure that will be a one hell of a discussion.” Elle muttered watching as Claire eased Peter into the passenger’s seat. That left her with the back. There was no way she was going to drive, not when she felt like she was going to start crawling out of her skin. She felt the electricity spark along her arm curving around her elbow and she leaned on the car heavily pulling the door open.
"Are you okay?" Peter asked as he saw her in the rear mirror. She seemed to be sparkling with the expression of pain in her face.
Elle grimaced turning the expression into smirk “Oh I am fine and dandy.” She turned to Claire “So where to now? I am hoping you have a plan because this little adventure seems to have failed.” She wanted to know if Claire would help her still.
Before Claire could say anything Peter spoke up.
"Head towards my apartment," was all that Peter said. He turned to see Claire in the driver seat. She seemed quieter than usual. She was more focused. It worried him.
Claire pointed the car in the direction of the small place that was Peter’s and her eyes strayed quickly to check on Elle in the back. She could see the blue spark dancing around the other girl’s neck and her voice was soft as she asked “Are you holding up okay?”
“No, I’m not. Instead of finding a way to help me where going to play at powerless boys house.” Her voice was bitter but there was an edge of panic underneath it. Claire understood. Elle couldn’t control her ability anymore. Claire couldn’t feel pain.
They started heading towards his house. "What is going on?" He looked at the ceiling trying to stop the world from spinning. He was trying to process all that had happen the past 24 hours.
“My powers are shorting out.” Elle managed a bright smile her hands starting to get that familiar tingle to them. “So why aren’t you dead? A fall like and you should be a big splat on the ground, but you’re not.” It could have been a trap, the two of them, making her believe that they were helping each other.
But she doubted it, they were too goody shoes for that.
“It was Sylar.” Claire said softly her voice harsh and she turned to Peter “Sylar tried to kill you.”
"I think he tried to save me, he is the only one that could have done that." Without his ability to head he should have died from the impact but he was sure Sylar had slowed down his fall. Then he looked to the mirror to look directly at Elle. "Thanks, for helping me and Claire."
Elle shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She wasn’t used to hearing thanks. “You’re welcome.” She breathed out softly biting her lip before she could follow that with a smart ass comment She could see Claire’s blond head and Peter’s dark one and she wondered what in the hell she was doing her. With them. She wasn’t one of the good guys.
She should have left them behind. Let them figure out things on their own and went in to Pinehurst. She belonged there, at a place like that. Instead she had chosen her side and it wasn’t the one she had expected.
Peter just stared out of the window as they continue heading towards his home. "Are you okay back there?" He repeated Claire’s question from earlier letting his worry for Elle shine through his own pain.
Elle watched the same landscape pass by and swallowed trying to smile “I will be.”
