Author’s Notes: This is a story we are working on. It’s a very rough draft and just the basic premises so everything is liable and probably will change (except the titles and the Hermione as Buffy’s sister idea).

Prologue

Dear Hermione,

I know you don’t know who I am and am probably wondering why I am writing to you. My name is Buffy Summers and I recently came across your name in some documents of my mothers. She died a few years back and I was given some legal papers of hers by her lawyers. I found your name on a birth certificate. I have already talked to your parents and they have agreed to send this letter to your school. I am writing this because my mother was your mother. You’re my sister. You’re mom and dad told me they would send a letter of their own to you to explain and I hope you read that one first because I don’t know how to explain it to you that won’t sound awful. I know your mom has forgiven your dad and I know my mom never had any regrets. Let’s just say the man she was married to wasn’t the best. For what it’s worth I don’t regret it either. I guess I am writing this because I want to get to know you. I already have a little sister, which I guess is your big sister. Her name is Dawn and she is in college. She wants to meet you, we both do. Enclosed in this letter is a plane ticket to the Cleveland, Ohio in the United States. We have a house and live with a few friends of ours. There is room here for you if you would like to come. It is open ended so you can leave whenever you want. Please come. I know this is probably hard for you and I understand if you choose not to come. Just know that I care about you, I worry about you. I don’t even know about you but I want to.

Sincerely, Buffy Summers

Buffy put the finishing touches on the letter and passed it to Willow. The red headed witch gave her a weak smile and Buffy returned it half heartedly. Dawn was by her side her head on her shoulder and Buffy wrapped her arm around her little sister’s shoulders.

It was hard, for both of them.

Sunnydale had been gone for over a year and things were finally settling down. They had decided to settle down in Cleveland. There was a Hellmouth and Buffy was still a Slayer. At first it had been just her and Dawn and an assortment of Slayers that Giles had asked her to train.

So Buffy had, and they had been doing pretty good.

Then an apocalypse had came and had brought Willow and Xander to the house. A week later Faith had showed up with Wood and every room had been filled. They had saved the world again, buried the girls that hadn’t made it through the battle, and the others had stuck around. Giles was managing the main headquarters of the Council in England with Andrew and Kennedy. They would make the occasional visit but it had been decided that the majority of the Slayer forces would be placed in Cleveland, and what was left of the Scooby’s would lead them.

It had taken a year for her father’s lawyers to find her. Apparently they had been looking for her since Sunnydale’s becoming a crater. They had some old paper’s of her mother’s that had been in the storage in L.A. It was in the paper’s that Buffy had found a birth certificate that wasn’t hers or Dawns. It was for Hermione Granger, born over 16 years ago. Father Thomas Granger and Mother listed as Joyce Summers. Hermione had been born the summer Buffy and Dawn had spent with their Aunt.

It had taken two months for Buffy to decide she didn’t want to ignore the fact that she had another sister. So she had written Mr. and Mrs. Granger and they had decided that they wanted her involved her involved in their daughter’s life. They had encouraged her to write a letter to her. They had assured her that they would make sure she got it.

Now she just had to wait, with Dawn. Whoever Hermione was they wanted to know her, they needed to.

~*~

Hermione held the letter in numb hands. She was beyond shocked. It wasn’t everyday that a person found out that the woman they had grown up calling mother wasn’t really their mother and that they had two sisters. She had two sisters, both older and apparently eager to meet her.

She didn’t know what to do.

The letter from her mum and dad had explained every painful detail. They had told her the secret they had been keeping from her for her for years and they had told her they loved her. They had left the decision up to her. Because she had always been so mature.

Didn’t mean she knew what to do. She was all packed and the train was leaving soon. Harry and Ron would want to know what the last minute letter was about. If for nothing other than a distraction from one of her best friend’s grief. Harry had just lost Sirius and he wasn’t handling it well.

She was supposed to be there for him. She wasn’t supposed to be dealing with life changing news of her own. She didn’t know what to do. If she would use the ticked and find out who these sisters of her were. She didn’t know if she was ready.

Things like this weren’t suppose to happen to her. She was the clever one. The brain behind the golden trios adventures. She was the know-it-all Granger girl who always had her hand raised and knew the right answer. She didn’t know how to be a sister. She didn’t know how to have sister’s.

Plus there was the whole witch issue, she might have been raised by muggles but was a witch. How could she hide that? Especially when she didn’t want to. She was proud of who she was. One thing she was sure of was they weren't. They could never fit into her world. It was a completely biased belief after watching her parent's uneasiness with it.

It didn’t matter though. She would have to make up her mind.
