Hello everyone! *waves*

It’s time for our September monthly challenge!

1000+ word story told about a Comical Topic. This should be a complete story, rather than a part of a larger piece, however, it can be original or fan fiction.

Entries will need to be received by midnight 30 Sep. at GMT -12. We’ll issue a closed post as we do with the weekly prompts.

When you post your entry, please tag it for the challenge.

You do not have to be a regularly contributing member of the community to participate. This challenge is optional and open to everyone.

You are allowed to use the monthly challenge in conjunction with any of the weekly prompts this month as long as you follow all the requirements for both. So, for this month, you would:
  • Include the weekly prompt in your story
  • It would be a stand-alone, short story of 1000 words or more told about a Comical Topic
  • It would be posted by the earlier of the two deadlines (midnight Saturday, or midnight on the 30th).

Good luck everyone!

Hi, I'm a tad confused, but thinking about joining in...eventually. So have I got this right? There will be a normal weekly prompt coming out today as well as this challenge. And a writer can choose to ignore this challenge and just do the weekly prompts as usual or choose to combine this challenge with any one of the weekly prompts this month.

Also, fyi, I think last week's prompt is missing a tag. It doesn't come up when I hit the Prompt posts (http://community.livejournal.com/tamingthemuse/tag/prompt+post) link.

Hello! First, I'm really glad you're thinking about joining! We'd love to have you. ^_^

And yes, you've got it right! You're more than welcome to participate in both the monthly challenge and the weekly challenge at the same time. To earn points towards awards, however, the weekly one is the one we count. The monthly challenges have their own separate awards.

And thank you for the note! It's greatly appreciated, and it should come up now. ^_^

Quick question - the kidlet and I have been bouncing an idea around that involves a split story, where the start and finish are the same, but the story splits two ways. We'd be writing the joint parts together, and each individual story would be over 1000 words long. Would this still qualify for the challenge, assuming both are posted separately, or would you prefer they were posted together, with cuts for the different parts?

ETA: Running hard up against the deadline, so I went ahead and put these up. Double checked the word count on the separate parts, made sure they were both over 1000. Hope that was okay- let me know if it wasn't!
