Rating: G
Summary: Routine's a killer.
George was staring at the eyes of a cat. She’d been staring for a while and couldn’t get herself to look away. What did Delores see in these little fur balls anyways? This one looked vicious and mean. not to mention extremely lazy since all it wanted to do was stare back at her. Than again she’d been staring at it first, so wasn’t it technology her fault.
“What are you staring at, Peanut?” Rube asked from beside her and she jumped out of the staring contact with the feline.
“Oh, huh, nothing,” she said quickly and put her mouth on her straw so no one would ask her any questions.
“Cute boy perhaps?” Daisy asked with a quick smile. George rolled her eyes and than turned to look back at the window. The cat was gone and he couldn’t help but frown. Maybe she should get a cat. Only she hated changing cat boxes, shedding, meowing, remembering to buy it food. Maybe a cat wasn’t such a good idea after all.
“Georgia girl doesn’t go for cute boys,” Mason said and flipped his collar, “She prefer dashing men.”
“Like I could find one around here,” George said staring right back at him and Mason glared.
“I’m right here,” Mason said running a hand through his hair.
“I know,” she snarled and glared at him. Mason glared back.
“Obviously doesn’t know a good thing when she sees one,” Mason said holding out his hand, “Post-it boss man.”
Rube took one out of his book and slapped it down on Mason’s palm and said, “Now get out of here.”
“Yes sir,” Mason said saluting and leaving with a single finger gesture.
“Me too. I got work,” Roxy said standing up and holding out an impatient hand. Rube gave her one and she walked off.
“And me darling,” she said holding out a prissy hand. Rube gave her one as well, ripping it from his book in different.
“I’m not your darling,” Rube said with a tight smile. Daisy smiled bright back at him before leaving.
George didn’t ask for her post it yet. She felt weird. Stuck really. They went through the same routine every day. Come here, have breakfast, take post it, do job/reap, come home, sleep, repeat. It was comfortable, but how long could they keep dong the same song and dance. Rube had been at it for like a hundred years. Maybe that’s why he was such a hard ass. So many years of dancing the same dance and the music stops touching you.
“Peanut,” Rube said offering her the post it. She didn’t take it right away. She was breaking out of routine.
“Should I get a cat?” George asked him.
“Do you want a cat?”
“No,” she said tilting her head, “But maybe I should get one.”
“If you don’t want one, don’t get one,” Rube suggested than turned to her with the ‘I’m reading you’ Rube face, “This isn’t about a cat.”
“I’m just bored.”
“What’s new?”
“I mean,” she said turning to him seriously, “I’m really bored.”
“Ah,” Rube said with his knowing head bob, “Get a cat than.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah,” he said again, “Do something unexpected.”
“Alright,” she said holding out her hand and getting her post it. She got up and hugged Rube tight, “Thank you.”
Once she pulled away Rube gave her a startled glance than raised a brow, “What was that for?”
“I don’t know,” she said with a soft smile, “But it was unexpected.”
