Summary: A move to a new town may be just the new start that Kris and his son have been needing. Especially when Kris meets Adam Lambert.
Disclaimer: I don't own anyone in this - except JT. The rest belong to themselves.
Notes: So, I've been wanting to do this for a long time now and this just seemed like the prompt to get me started. I don't know. Anyway, it's nowhere near done yet but I'm posting anyway. Title and summary are subject to change but this is it for now so I make the deaadline.

When Kris Allen was younger, his mother would try to get him involved in more, claiming, “Idle hands are the devil’s joy.” So he’d gone out, playing baseball and learning guitar, but there’d been one thing that he’d loved even more than either of those—well, he’d say guitar was tied with it—and that was baking.

The entire process was something that relaxed him and it had only felt natural to make that into his career. It hadn’t been easy, starting his own bakery but he’d done it.

Now, thanks to circumstances, he was going to be doing it all over again in a new town.

He let out a breath and looked over at the table where his son sat, swinging his feet as he colored. Since his wife, Katy, had been killed over a year ago, JT had continued to grow quieter until it was a rare thing for Kris to hear the laughter of his son. Instead, he had gotten too used to seeing smiles on his son’s face and not the bright smiles he’d gotten before but close-mouthed smiles that made him ache for the days when JT would run into the room shouting and laughing.

Hopefully, moving to a new town that wasn’t so full of memories would be just what he and JT needed. He’d already found them another house and he’d also already found the place where he’d be setting up his bakery. Matt Giraud, his best friend and assistant, had insisted on moving with him saying that he’d be damned if he was going to find a boss as good as Kris before adding that having at least one other familiar face around might make things easier for both Kris and JT.

Really, how could Kris argue with that logic?

Kris moved to the table, running a hand over JT’s dirty blond hair, remembering how Katy had laughed and said that their son was the perfect balance between them when it came to looks. “Hey, buddy, it’s time for bed. We’ve got a big day tomorrow,” he said.

JT looked up at him and frowned. “Do I have to? I’m not tired.”

Kris nodded, fighting to keep the smile off his face at the typical reaction. “Yup, I’m afraid so.” He swung JT into his arms. “Come on, funny face, to bed with you.”

“Can I sleep with you?” JT asked, wrapping his arms around Kris’s neck.

The question wasn’t a surprise to Kris, it was something that JT had been asking whenever there was a big change. After Katy, JT had refused to sleep in his own bed for nearly a month.

“Sure. Then you can wake me up and we can go get Matt and have a special breakfast before we go to our new house, okay?” He made a mental note to send Matt a text, letting him know that he’d promised breakfast, and also decided to send Daniel a text to let him know that he and their dad could go to Matt’s for breakfast if they wanted to.

“French toast?”

“French toast,” Kris confirmed with a small smile as they began to head towards the room.
