Peppermint
Mar. 6th, 2010 12:32 pmAuthor's Note: This wasn't what I was originally going to write because I did have the next chapter of Obsessions in mind. However, a temp job I had this week pushed everything back. Thus, you get this instead. Hope you enjoy and trust me when I say that Dean and Angelus aren't going too far.

Disc.: An original poem, hopefully one thats never been written before. Let me know if it has been.
Summary: She forever remembers the taste of peppermint
---------
She forever remembers the taste of peppermint because of him
Of course, they had just been kids back then
Traveling down the town's one dusty road
Without the notion of a destination
Without a hint of recreation to pursue
They ate peppermint ice cream in the town soda shop
And she thought one day he might propose
What she never could have guessed
Was more than an awful shock
But that seems to be the way things go
In this town, people don't come back
In this town, everyone's keeping track
In this town, they remember the day
In this town, he went his own way
Now ten years came and went for them
Faster than the blink of an eye
Between football and bakes sales and all of that
But ten years is a long time
And all you have to hold onto is a dream
One day she noticed his favorite jeans were gone
After drying for the longest time
She didn't want to guess her greatest fear
That she had been left with nothing but tears
And not a notion of what she'd meant to him
In this town, people don't come back
In this town, everyone's keeping track
In this town, they remember the day
In this town, when he went away
It took more years still for her heart to find courage
And even when it did
Well, it was never the same
She met a good man, an even better father
But she always kept a silver ring on a chain
At her son's graduation in the big city
She saw a familiar face in the crowd
He was balding and tired but she knew that smile
And she ran to him
But he found out
And he threw himself down a flight of stairs
So she would never see
The disaster and broken dreams of a broken man
That was waiting for real destiny
To see what he could be
In this town, people don't come back
In this town, everyone's keeping track
In this town, they remember the day
In this town, when he went away
She was the only one to come to his apartment
To see what had become of his life
The place was bare and cold, not homely
A tenement with a leaking pipe
And only one portion of him remained
It was on the dresser with an unopened letter
His matching ring on his own silver chain
And her hand shook as she unfolded the paper
And read his unsent note
He would go back when he had made it
And rescue them both from a life without hope
