Summary: Tom Freidman is a strong man—a soldier, a sniper, and a law-enforcement officer in the rough and dangerous colonies. He's also a man who has never felt like he had a place, not even on the Kratos where he respects both Captain Ramsay and his right hand man, Eli. He hopes that maybe he can catch the eye of Becca, the young lieutenant assigned as their engineer. Like him, she's from the colonies. She knows what it means to grow up poor and hopeless, and hopefully she can see through the mistakes he's made in the past. However, his plans keep getting ruined by Da'shay, an oddly beautiful genta with her own plans. The genta are aliens who don't seem to even understand rules, and this genta seems determined to make Tom's life miserable. Considering just how often Tom screws up, he's perfectly capable of ruining his own life, he really doesn't need any more help in that department.
