Summary: Anna just finished painting the exterior of Agathe's house.
This story is a an occasion for me to play around with the main characters of my story for [livejournal.com profile] femmeslash_bang. The general summary is: Anna and Agathe are reincarnated through the centuries. They spend all their lives looking for each other but sometimes it takes a while for them to remember the existence of the other. This time, in the 21st century, Anna remembers Agathe but doesn't know where she is, while Agathe doesn't remember anything.

Anna took a step backward to get a better look at her work. She couldn't remember the last time she had worked so hard. Well, two weeks ago before she had quit her job she had worked pretty hard every day, but then her work had been mainly mental and all she had had to do was sit on a chair and use her brain. Today had been a whole other kind of exercise. She had spent all day - with only a little break for lunch - painting the house Agathe built for herself. She wasn't sure she had any kind of muscles left working properly in her body and at that thought she realized she was still up and had no idea how that was possible. She let her body fell onto the ground, lying on her back against the warm, soft carpet of grass. She closed her eyes and let the sun bathed her in an embrace of late summer afternoon warmth, while an occasional breeze cooled her body, making her shirt feel a little less sticky against her skin.

She was almost falling asleep when she heard the sound of a familiar voice.

"Wow! Did you do that all by yourself since I left you here after lunch?"

Anna didn't bother opening her eyes as it felt too difficult and simply mumbled her agreement.

"That's a good thing then that I brought refreshment and a pain aux raisins for you from the bakery."

Anna heard Agathe sat down besides her and a second later she could make out of the sound of the crispy paper from the bakery and the smell of the pastry starting to invade her nose. At this scent her stomach grumbled and Anna laughed while trying to sit up. Agathe was perfect, always had been, and always would be. As Anna reached a fully sitting position, Agathe was holding out a bottle of lemonade to her. Anna grabbed it eagerly and took a long sip, feeling the cold liquid go down her throat to settle in her stomach, and suddenly she felt her body starting to find some strenght back.

"Thanks. That felt really good."

Agathe smiled at her.

"Well it better be good. I made it especially for you. And as promised, here is your special treat."

She gave Anna the pain aux raisins, her eyes shining with joy just like a small child being handed a new toy. Anna loved this pastry and since her arrival here she had eaten way too many. In her opinion, the bakery of this village made the best pain aux raisins in the world and she could never say no to one. Her body was definitely awake now and she didn't feel so exhausted with the taste of lemonade in her mouth, the scent of fresh pastry in her nose and the feel of the presence of Agathe besides her. I could live like this forever, she thought as Agathe's hand brushed against hers. She moved slightly closer to her friend and kissed her cheek.

"Thanks Agathe."

She wished she could have kissed her lips and rested against her body to relax and eat her treat, but that wasn't possible. Agathe didn't remember her yet, not the way she should. Anna felt the exhaustion of her body come back to her with this train of thoughts and forced herself to put them away. Those were not happy thoughts and she didn't want to feel the pain of them, not now that the day seemed so perfect in spite of all the muscles aches she knew she would have the following morning. So, instead of lingering in her world of thoughts, she laid down again on the grass, closed her eyes and started to eat her pain aux raisins.

A few seconds later she heard the other woman stood up and walk towards her house to inspect the work Anna did. And in that moment Anna could pretend that Agathe was in love with her, going over to their home to check on the work accomplished, being impressed by the manual work ability of her otherwise incapable wife.

*pain au raisins is a french pastry. I don't know of any translation for it, so here is a photo.
