Summary: Helena knew she was about to die but she didn't care.
Helena knew she was about to die but she didn't care. She had strangely never felt more at peace in her life than in that instant when she was seconds away from dying and that she knew it. She didn't even wish she could live longer. In the time of an eye blink, when she had seen Myka's gaze upon her, she had wished she could have been allowed a few more seconds just to kiss her lips, just for one time. But that second had passed quickly. She would take a lifetime with Myka if she could but she couldn't. And in all honesty she knew that she had lived for far too long. She was out of time, out of her time. The twenty-first century was amazing and all kind of wonderful but it wasn't her time, she had never meant to be alive so late in History.
Going to the bronze had been a mistake. She had realized it while holding the Janus coin for the first time. She should have never been allowed to live on, not this way. She shouldn't even have been allowed to be trapped in the Janus coin. She had agreed to it but she now knew she shouldn't have. Yes her mind was valuable and that much she knew was true - had always known was true. But she was more than a mind. She was a human being, she had feelings, hopes and fears. And she had lived with those for far too long. She should have have the courage to die instead of becoming a reckless Warehouse agent, instead of being a coward and choosing to trap herself into a still life. She realized that now as she was smiling at Myka thanking her for the joy she had shown her, for the peace she had brought to her and for helping her realize that love still existed, that the world wasn't so bad after all.
If the world had been made up of only Myka she might have had regrets in that moment, she might not have been ready to die. She could have lived on an island far away with Myka - with only Myka. Out of space, out of time. Then she wouldn't have felt like a stranger, she wouldn't have felt trapped in a world that wasn't her own because she could have built one for Myka and her. But that was not possible and dying was the only escape, the only option. But dying just to die couldn't have been enough, wouldn't have been enough. She was dying because her time had run out, because it was the only option and because it was saving what was most beautiful and precious in this world. It was saving Pete and optimism, it was saving Artie and science. But most important of all it was saving Myka and pure unalterated innocent love. And as long as people were capable of that kind of love Helena knew the world would be safe because there would be an alternative to the bad and ugly she so hated, because there would be a fight and she was living proof that love would always win. Myka had turned her from hate to love by simply smiling at her and believing in her - always. So yes, Helena was about to die but she didn't mind. The smell of apples was in the air, life would go on and she would finally rest.
