Summary: Morgause looked at the pale figure of the little baby boy she had just gave birth to.
Morgause looked at the pale figure of the little baby boy she had just gave birth to. Her first boy, her first child, and the most important one of all she thought. He was Arthur's son, the perfect tool for her plan. It would take years before she could see it realized, before this boy would even be ready to learn the truth and become a real asset, but Morgause didn't care. She knew patience and by then Arthur would have forgotten, thinking she was content with her life in the Orkney islands.
The boy in her arms was sleeping. He looked so peaceful, so innocent. She smiled. She would have to work on this look of innocence though he would never really be innocent. But for now he was. His first hours on this earth she could offer him that: innocence. Then she would begin to mould him to her will, to change him and to plant seeds of evil and betrayal in him. He would never be innocent, couldn't be allowed more than a few hours of it at birth or her plan would never work. No, this boy would have to become her puppet. Morgause bent down to kiss the head of the new born boy.
"Have a rest my boy. Enjoy those hours of peace, it will be the only ones you'll ever get."
And at those words she left the room.

So much time had gone by, so much years and centuries have passed and Mordred was once more walking this earth. He was sitting on top of a hill on what used to be his first home - the Orkney islands - a long long time ago. He didn't cherish the land so much now but it hold a special place in his heart. In spite of everything it had been the space where he had been the most free and the most happy in his first life. He knew now that he had been under the grip of his mother since birth, that she had manipulated him since the first moment he had breathed in the air of this earth but still he had lived a few years with the illusion of joy and happiness in those islands. He had ran free in the wild, swam in the sea as if he had always belonged there, and he had laughed, truly laughed. He had thought himself innocent and pure - a knight to be. But it had all been lies. It had all been part of his mother careful planning and never once had he really been innocent. Doubts had always been there as to his parentage, to his role in the world. The true moment of happiness had been found when he had been completely alone for hours, out of the world and so able to forget about everything but his own existence. In those rare moments he fancied he had been innocent, allowed to be who he wanted to be and not a mere puppet. But those moments had been so few that Mordred sometimes wondered if he had not invented them to provide an excuse for himself, to think of himself as not evil from birth.
He sighed. It was useless to sit here and stare at the ocean. No answers lied there, nothing was waiting for him and the place didn't even looked like it used to be. Mordred didn't really recognize the lands and couldn't find back the places he had loved. Maybe it was for the best he thought as he was standing up to go back to his car. If this place didn't mean anything to him anymore it also meant the magic of his mother was gone. It would have taken centuries for him to come back here but it had been worth the wait. Now he was stronger, now the magic of his mother wasn't here anymore or simply didn't work on him anymore. Now he could regain his innocence and get a new chance at life.
