Summary: Axel and Uriel are star gazing on top of the train.
EXT. - COUNTRY - NIGHT
The night is clear and the moon full. A train is riding slowly into the night, its light on, the steam blowing steadily. Everything around it is quiet. There is no house, no villages, only forests and wild fields for miles around.
CUT TO
Uriel and Axel are lying flat on their backs on the top of the last wagon of the train. They are relaxed, their eyes fixed on the stars.
URIEL
I've always liked the stars.
AXEL
I've never noticed them.
URIEL
You mean you've never taken the time to look at them?
Uriel turns his head to his friend, a look of surprise in his eyes.
AXEL
Well no. There was always too many things to do at night at the circus.
URIEL
(turning his head back to the stars)
Yeah I guess you would have always been busy at night.
The two boys remain silent for a while, gazing at the stars.
AXEL
I've always noticed the sun though.
URIEL
(teasing)
It's kind of hard to miss.
AXEL
I mean, I used to watch the sun rise every morning. (after a pause) I miss it.
URIEL
Well you can have the stars now.
AXEL
(his voice low, not very convinced)
Yes, I guess I can.
URIEL
They are still part of the sky. They still shine and bring light.
AXEL
(absently)
They do yes.
Uriel turns his head to his friend. His gaze is lost on the sky, not really looking at the sky.
Axel is lost in his memories from his time at the circus. He misses his home.
Uriel keeps looking at him for a few moments before gently nudging him in the ribs with his arm. Axel tries to protest but before he can open his mouth, Uriel is pointing at the sky.
URIEL
Look there. You see those three stars aligned next to each other.
AXEL
(scanning the sky)
No.
URIEL
Oh come on, it's not hard to spot. Just follow my finger.
AXEL
(looking at Uriel's finger and trying yo follow the line up to the sky. After a pause)
Oh those three stars!
Axel points in the same direction as Uriel.
URIEL
Yes those! They are Orion's belt.
AXEL
Orion's belt?
URIEL
Yep, and all around you can see Orion's figure. He was some kind of hunter or something like that. Stefan told me once.
AXEL
And why would he be in the sky?
URIEL
Because the greek Gods gave immortality to people like that. They shot them into the sky, making them stars.
AXEL
(doubtful)
Really?
URIEL
Well that's what Stefan told me. The night sky is full of people. You just have to look to see them.
AXEL
Do you know any others?
URIEL
Not really no. I only had one star gazing session with Stefan and it was ages ago.
AXEL
Then we can make up our own, can't we?
URIEL
I guess so.
AXEL
Then here is what I see. There (pointing to the sky) you see those stars making kind of a circle with little spikes on top?
URIEL
(very doubtful)
Yeah, I think so.
AXEL
(not paying attention to the tone of his friend's voice)
Well they look a little like the round face of Marcel. He was our star clown.
Uriel turns his head to his friend. He can see a smile beginning to appear on his lips as he starts pointing to another set of stars, trying to make it look like one of the circus horse.
Uriel smiles at the sight. His friend is adopting the night sky and making it host his home. He will always carry it with him now.
