Summary: Lancelot twisted his hands in a vain attemps to make the sweat disappear.

Lancelot twisted his hands in a vain attemps to make the sweat disappear. He was never nervous before a battle, even less before a one to one combat. Then he knew his chances, he knew his ability and most importantly he knew God was on his side. There was nothing that could make him lose, make him die. He was Lancelot.

He rose to his feet, trying to disipate the knot in his stomach by walking around the room. Exercise always made him feel better, but today it didn't seem to work. After a few minutes of walking aimlessly in an enclosed space, he leaned against the wall. He wished he could make the stones disappear and fall into the void between this tower and the soft earthly ground. What has he been thinking when he had asked an audience with the Queen? What was he even going to say? It was not as if he could declare his undying love for her, he couldn't even hint at it, not to her.

He closed his eyes. He had been stupid, like a child acting on a whim. He had been back from a long mission that had taken him away from court for three months. He had tried to wait to run into the Queen by accident but in two days it hadn't happen. There had been meetings and receptions to attend, stories to recount, things to put in order, accounts to listen to, and no time to linger into the corridors in the hope to glimpse the white velvet skin of the Queen.

He opened his eyes and started to walk to the exit, but in that instant the opposite door opened, revealing a servant.

"The Queen is ready to receive you my Lord."

"Thank you," he replied automatically. He could feel his stomach tightening, his throat drying, and his hands suddenly becoming even moister.

The servant stepped aside to let him in. He walked in, acting purely on reflexes.

"My Queen," he said as he bowed down at the entrance.

"Lancelot," she exclaimed gaily. "Get up. No need for formalitites between us."

"Yes, my Queen."

She laughed. He felt himself blush. He didn't want to be so official but he couldn't help it. It was all he could do not to throw himself at her feet and profess his love to her.

"What did you want to see me about Lancelot?"

"I..." No words followed that first one as the Queen took his hand to invite him to sit beside her.

"I'm sure you have a lot more to tell me than just I. Especially after this long absence of yours. I have missed you, you know."

She smiled at him warmly and he could feel his inside melt under the heat that radiated through his body.

"Tell me all about your adventures."

"My Queen, I am not sure they are fit for a lady such as you." He found it miraculous to have been able to utter such a long sentence.

"Lancelot... please," she begged him with her eyes as well as her voice.

He smiled, unable to supress the movement. "Alright then. Let me count you my adventures."

"Thank you Lancelot."

Suddenly he couldn't remember why he had been so nervous before. It felt easy to be with the Queen when her eyes were focusing on him, her hand gently holding his and her face radiating with the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.
