Summary: They had been walking for hours through the forest and Miranda hadn’t stopped complaining for a second, but Pearl hadn’t care.

They had been walking for hours through the forest and Miranda hadn’t stopped complaining for a second, but Pearl hadn’t care. She had barely heard any of Miranda’s words in the midst of the buzzing of the insects, the gentle caress of the wind on the leaves high above them, and the small scratching of animals running away from them. She had wished they wouldn’t, she had longed to touch their soft fur again. But she knew they were scared. Miranda’s gestures were too frantic and her speech was alien to them. It wasn’t important though, not in that instant when she could feel the damp of the air on her skin, melting within the environment.

She closed her eyes for a second and took Miranda’s hand in her. The other girl jumped at the touched but quickly relaxed when she recognised the familiar palm of Pearl.

“Shhhh…,” murmured Pearl. “Listen.”

Miranda stopped walking. Pearl was tempted to open her eyes just to see the expression of her friend’s face but she didn’t want to loose her focus on the touch of the forest on her.

“Hummm… Pearl,” started Miranda hesitantly after a few seconds.

Pearl glanced at her without really opening her eyes.

“What am I supposed to be listening to,” she asked her voice dropping low.

“Close your eyes…” replied Pearl while caressing Miranda’s forehead with her thumbs, slowing dropping them to her eyelids to make them shut. She stepped closer to her friends, their bodies inches apart. She leaned inches closer still and whispered in her friend’s ear “…and listen.”

She felt Miranda shiver at the touch of her breath against her skin. “Listen…” she repeated, her breath trailing along the neck of her friend.

“Can you hear the songs of the birds,” she asked almost a minute later. Miranda nodded. “And can you hear the music of the wind?” Miranda nodded once more.

“Good.” She leaned her entire body towards her friend. “Now feel…” she breathed against her neck before pressing her lips softly against Miranda damp skin. She felt the other woman jolt in surprise but she did not let her escape. She trapped her within her arms and pressed their body together.

Before Miranda could utter a sound she said, “keep your eyes closed.” And she kissed her neck once more, trailing down the hem of her t-shirt. She followed its line with the tip of her tongue before rising toward Miranda’s face. She paused at the corner of her mouth, sensing the other woman leaning against her, her face moving towards her lips, asking for more.

Pearl smiled and waited a few more seconds before giving in to her Miranda’s demand. Their lips met and Pearl forgot the sounds of life around her, forgot the embrace of the forest. There was only Miranda in that instant. Miranda and her soft moans escaping against her will, Miranda’s skin grabbing at her clothes and asking for more.

As she guided Miranda against the nearest tree, her own hands sliding under her t-shirt, she vaguely thought that Miranda had stopped complaining about the roughness of the forest, about its smells and its dampness. Maybe she would come to like the forest after all.
