Title: Strange Encounter
Fandom: Star Trek universe
Prompt: Prompt #385 Syzygy
Rating: Gen
It's just me toying with Star Trek universe. No series particularly involved (might happen later if I actually go further). And of course, I took the irrational decision to write this in English despite the fact every single Star Trek episode I've seen was in French. It's supposed to take place some years after the Voyager's return in the Alpha Quadrant.
"Captain's log. Stardate 5 ... something ... Nobody understands those stupid dates anyway. Captain's log. April 2381... The 24th. It's been difficult to keep track of the day without a good old calendar, lately. I'm currently cruising in the El-Adrel system, and ... well ... so far, it's boring. I dont know what I was expecting. I was looking for an empty system of sort, and that's exactly what it is. I thought it would be scarier, like in one of those 20th century horror space movie. But it's not. I think I'll stay here for a couple of hours more, than head for Klingon space, or maybe the Cardassian Union ... I don't know yet, but either'll be more exciting than this."
Tanlana reached in front of her to switch the computer recorder by hand, putting by the same move her feet on the ground, from the place up on the console where she usually put them. Thoram had hated it when she did that, back in her days on the Free Heart. Now that she was her own captain, she could do whatever she wanted, and she wasn't going to deny herself that little pleasure.
She got up and streched out slowly, ending the gesture by rolling her shoulders backward. Now she was hungry. The emergency rations she had piled up in a corner of the ship's hold weren't exactly what she would like to have, but since the synthesizer was out of order - a state it assumed mere days after she bought the Moon River -, she had to rely on them for long-distance trips. She was humming That Old Black Magic while dugging for a flavour that would inspire her today when the proximity sensors started bipping, warning her that something was approaching the Moon River.
Tanlana frowned, got up with the last ration she had been checking, and went back to the cockpit. She barely took the time to sat up before she put the sensors report on her screen. Something was coming near her ship - something big and greyish.
"Computer, identify the coming object."
It didn't took long to the voice of the Moon River to deliver its report :
"Ship of composite origin, approximately the size of K't'inga class ships."
"That's way too big for me", Tanlana muttered. Then she added, louder : "Scan the ship for weapons or stuffs like that."
"In progress."
It could take a while, given the Moon River had quite an outdated sensor system. Tanlana had been cobbling improvements on that area together lately, but it was still far from Starfleet standard equipement. Not that she had had the opportunity to see some for herself. She was curious about it, but not enough to undergo the Starfleet formation that would ensure her access to Federation ships.
Another bip threw her out of her thoughts. The other ship was trying to communicate. Why not, after all. Tanlana switch the comms on, and turned toward the small screen on her left. A mainly humanoid face appeared in front of her, smilling widely.
"Misenc be praised ! We have been looking for you for so long, but e knew Misenc would put you on our path !"
"Er... Hello ...", Tanlana responded, taken aback by the man's enthousiasm. "Do we know each other ?"
"Not yet, but you have been sent to us for the Syzygy, ans as such you are now considered a part of our people."
Things were getting weirder and weirder, and Tanlana didn't like it. Not at all.
"Ok, thanks, but no thanks. I'm already part of nation, and I don't need another one. Sorry."
The man didn't look disappointed, or angry. Actually, his mood didn't change at all. "Don't worry, Misenc will show you the right path."
"Multiple phasers and torpedo launchers have been detected", the computer suddenly said, compelling Tanlana to look away from the screen. A heavy tremor suddely shook the Moon River, and Tanlana look out in space out of reflex. "Computer, what happened ?"
"A tractor beam has been fixed on the ship."
"Oh, crap", Tanlana cursed, while her ship was getting closer and closer to the bigger one. She had the distinct impression bigger troubles were waiting for her inside of that monstruosity, and there wasn't anything she could do about it now.
