Summary: She had traveled thousands of miles around the earth - was still traveling - and yet, she hadn't had any glimpse of Anna, any hope even of getting close to her.
Agathe closed the lid of her suitcase, held tight on it, and locked it. She looked at it and smiled at all the stickers she had managed to accumulate on it. The old leather was almost invisible under all the decorations. Her smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared. She could remember all the adventures she had, the hundreds of people she met and the delight they brought her. But all those stickers also represented an unfulfilled quest. She had traveled thousands of miles around the earth - was still traveling - and yet, she hadn't had any glimpse of Anna, any hope even of getting close to her. She had met others like her and it had always been a joy to be reunited with them, to share memories and experiences, to finally have someone that could relate to your stories. But they were not Anna, they could never be enough.

Agathe was sitting on a place, mindlessly watching the film the airplane company had decided would entertain its passengers. She had seen too many of those to register any of the storyline any longer. She thought of her suitcase in the cargo compartment. It was her entire life. She had sold all of her possessions in the same month she had remembered who she was. She had quit her job and went off into the world in search of Anna. She had been on the roads for years. She had been lucky to find a job that let her work remotely from anywhere on the planet. But she longed for the day when she could throw away the content of that bag, burn everything and settle in one place with Anna. She missed not having a place she could call home, a place she could always rely on, a place where she would always be welcomed. She closed her eyes to stop the tears and within minutes she was asleep.

"A room for one please."
"Certainly," replied the young man behind the counter. "How long will you be staying?"
Agathe thought about this for an instant. She usually knew pretty quickly if she was going to find Anna or not, but then she had never visited this particular part of the world so she might as well stay and enjoyed it for a little while.
"Let's make it a month," she smiled. "Any good thing you'd recommend I see?"
The young man started telling her about all the wonders of his country. She vaguely listened as her eyes drifted off the window. Could she really stay in this place for a month if she couldn't find any trace of Anna anywhere within the week? Maybe she should try, maybe she should give Anna a chance to find her. Wasn't she making it more difficult to be found as she never stayed in the same place long? What if Anna had decided to travel the world as she did? No, she thought, Anna wouldn't do this. She wasn't this adventurous, never had been without Agathe by her side.
Agathe reported her attention back to the young man. "Thanks a lot," she said as he finished speaking. "I'll be sure to do all that," she concluded as he handed her the key to her new home for the time being.
She grabbed the handle of her suitcase, lifted it firmly off the floor and went off to her room. It was time to unpack, to make it feel like her place if only for an instant.
