Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, nor anything related to the Buffyverse. Sigh.
Summary: Viktor reflects on the Great Revelation of the wizard world, and meets the cause.
A/N: This piece is badly in need for revision, but since I struggle too much with it not to use it and it's time to post ... Anyway, it's a Buffy/Harry Potter crossover that takes place some place during the comic books seasons of Buffy and way after the seventh HP book. It's written from Viktor's POV, which is a stupid idea since I haven't read him much in English, and my last GoF reread was years ago. So well, it's not that good, and his wonderful accent is completely lost. One day I'll come back to this and do him justice.
When the negligence of one of its members had suddenly exposed the vampire world to the normal one, the Wizard community had, for the first, really feared that Muggles would eventually find out about them.
Those fears were justified.
It didn't take long for a few Muggles to notice and question strange events around them. The Ministries of Magic, once so effective in hiding magical incidents, got quickly overwhelmed, new adepts of a magical conspiracy being numerous and quick at sharing information from all over the world. Soon, the Wizard world had no ther choice but to make its own coming out, and become a part of a new, globalized world. A lot of pro-pure-blood were absolutely straggered at the simple idea of sharing their world with plain Muggles, but no lobbying managed to stop the motion.
Viktor didn't mind this opening much. His position as Quidditch player didn't suffer any change. Actually, the Muggle community took a liking on it, and games were now broadcasted on that device they called television. His fanmail increased with the letters of young non-magical people as filled with enthousiasm about his abilities as magical ones. He had even watched, with slight amusement, attempts at building devices who would enable Muggles to play as well. They would never match a Wizard player, but there was a sense of tribute in it that wasn't lost on him.
Tonight, however, he was experiencing the downside of the Great Revelation. Clad in an expensive dark suit that had been taylored for the occasion, he was attending one of the numerous receptions the Muggles seemed to appreciate so much. With his star position, he was now expected to show up on parties like this charity, and he wasn't at ease in any of them. Sociability wasn't his main quality. He was at home on his broomstick, up in the sky, part of a team but evolving on his own. He wasn't like all those movie stars, engaging easily in small chatter. The team manager said it was good for his career ; Viktor was on the opinion that training and resting would be a better use of his time.
Several other Bulgarian players were scattered around the ballroom, talking to people he mostly didn't know. Alexei Levski, one of their chasers, was coming toward him, an attractive blond woman holding his arm. She looked like she was half as young as her partner, and something in her face was oddly familiar to Viktor.
"Ah, Viktor", Alexei greeted him cheerfully. "This lady was dying to meet you", he added with a wink for the blond.
"Ooh, Alexei", she giggled, the two sharing a private joke that was lost on Viktor.
"Let me introduce you to Harmony Kendall, a real television star", the chaser continued.
"Miss Kendall", Viktor greeted her, courteously taking her cold hand in his, and kissing it softly. She seemed delighted by his attention.
"I'm so happy to meet you", Harmony said with a high-pitched voice, moving her hands as if to illustrate her sentences. "I've seen all of your games during the last World Cup ! I don't really understand all the rules, you know, but I've found you wonderful."
"Thank you", Viktor replied with modesty.
"Harmony was the star of that reality show, Harmony Bites", Alexei supplied, and suddenly Viktor remembered why the young blonde was known to him: she was the one that had given the secret of vampire existence away, and prompted the great revelation of his own world.
While she kept talking happily to the two Quidditch player, needing only a little participation now and then, the seeker observed her with amazement. How such a little, bubbly woman could have caused such a havoc in two separate communities ?
