Holding Out for a Hero 3/? (Prompt: Lamia)
Jun. 9th, 2007 04:12 pmThis fic is a co-written one, myself and
petxnd, so mods she needs to get credit for this for her awards. She’s also made a lovely worksafe banner underneath the cut. It is over 1,000 words so it qualifies under the majority decision of that poll. This will also have to count for me again this week, I’m still horrendously ill.
Title: Holding out for a Hero 3/?
Fandom: BtVS
Prompt: Lamia
Warnings: Pre-slash. This fic will eventually have underage sex, so if that squicks you be warned. Xander is 14, almost 15 in this fic.
Rating: Adults Only (not this chapter but eventually)
Background: This is an AU. Spike and Dru parted ways long ago, and this is Sunnydale the year before Buffy showed up.
Summary: Xander has an abusive home life. His only escape is in the form of a comic book called ‘William the Bloody Avenger’, featuring a leather-clad blonde superhero who rescues people from abusive situations. Then Xander sees his hero in the flesh, and is not sure what to do. This Chapter- Xander and Spike get closer, and Spike saves Xander from being attacked.

It was early the next morning when Spike touched Xander's shoulder to wake him up. "Come on, boy. Need to dress. We're going to shop for you some clothes."
Xander jerked away and year of reflexes kicked in, he scrabbbled wildly to get off the bed, nearly losing his boxers in the process.
Spike stood still. "It's all right, pet. I'm not going to hurt you."
Xander blinked at him owlishly for a moment and them seemed to remember and relaxed visibly. He hitched up the boxers, "Sorry I forgot where I was."
Spike smiled. "That's fine, pet. Go ahead, get dressed."
Xander scrambled off the bed and headed for the bathroom. It was still dark. He switched on the light and closed the door. He took a minute to splash his face with water and swill out his mouth, then he clambered into his clothes. He carried the boxers out to Spike.
Spike was still getting dressed when Xander came out, in the process of pulling on his jeans. He wasn't wearing any underwear. He showed no embarrassment, just pulling up his jeans and buttoning them up. "Just set them on the dresser," Spike said.
He turned away quickly and mumbled, "Sorry." He put the boxers on the dresser. He kept his back to Spike hearing the rustle of clothing.
Spike pulled on the rest of his clothes. "Nothing to be sorry for."
Xander stole a glance and then turned round. He kept his eyes lowered and his hands fidgeted nervously. "Where are we going? It's still dark?"
"One of those twenty-four hour stores. The big one. The clothes aren’t the best but they'll do for a start."
Xander nodded. Anything would be an improvement on the thrift shop. He smiled a little at Spike, suddenly remembering he had no idea what his size was. "I. I don't know what size I am."
"Well then we can just hold them up to you, see if they look right, and you can try them on."
Xander nodded. Spike made it sound so easy.
Spike ushered Xander down to an ancient-looking, beat-up DeSoto. It looked just like the one in the comics. A few minutes later they were in the bright lights of the massive store, Spike shoving pieces of clothing, one after another, into Xander's arms. Nothing fancy, just basic jeans and shirts, a decent sweater, and some new shoes. They also picked up some luggage to carry it in and a new backpack for Xander, and Spike paid for it all. In less than half an hour they were back at the car. "See, told you we could do it," Spike said, looking over at the slightly dazed-looking boy.
Xander stood almost invisible under a mountain of bags. He blinked at Spike. He was an advocate of fast food, but fast shopping? He propped himself up against the DeSoto. "This is a lot of shopping. Fast too."
Spike chuckled. "I can shop like a pro. It's one of my many skills." He opened the back door of the car so they could shovel bags in, stopping just to extract the backpack, the sweater and shoes, and a clean outfit for Xander. "You need something to wear today. C'mon, get it, we'll go back to the motel so you can change." He handed Xander the bag and cupped his cheek with the other hand.
Xander took the bags and stared up at him. Subconsciously he rubbed his face against Spike's and smiled. He blushed a little. "Thanks for buying me everything."
"You're welcome. I enjoyed it, really. Now come along." Spike urged Xander into the car, and they started driving back to the motel. It was the gray of pre-dawn.
Xander yawned sleepily. He failed to notice how anxious Spike seemed to be to get back to the motel. The roads were almost empty and they reached the motel in no time. Spike urged Xander from the car and ushered him into their room. Xander hurried along, clutching his new things.
Spike settled back on the bed. "Try on your new clothes. You have to leave for school soon at any rate." He tucked his hands behind his head, smiling at Xander.
Xander padded to the bathroom. He was a little disappointed. He had a secret hope that perhaps he'd be allowed to miss school. He changed quickly. The clothes weren't particularly fashionable, but they were neat, clean and durable. Xander smoothed then down. It had been a long, long time since he'd had anything new, or that fitted. He changed into his new sneakers and padded out of the bathroom. Spike was lounging on the bed, hands behind his head. He smiled at him shyly.
Spike nodded, looking Xander over. "Much better. You like them?"
Xander fingered his new clothes. "They're lovely."
Spike smiled. "Good. They'll do for now at any rate." Spike stretched. "Can you make it to school from here?"
Xander nodded. "It's only a few blocks, I can walk."
"Good boy." He held out a key for Xander. "Take this. You can let yourself in this afternoon."
Xander took the key and put it in a pocket in his new rucksack
Spike smiled. "Good boy." He handed Xander some money. "Get you breakfast on the way as well, and some lunch at school. You need to eat properly."
Xander took the money and put it into the inside pocket of his new jacket. He looked at Spike. "Will you be here when I get back from school?"
"I will." He put out his hand, tangling his fingers in Xander's hair.
Xander pushed into his hand and felt a wave of relief. "I should be home about 3.30"
Spike smiled as Xander referred to the motel room as 'home'. He was really starved for affection and attention.
Xander checked he had everything and hitched the rucksack on his shoulder, moving to the door. He stopped and looked uncertain for a minute and then face aflame he rushed over and kissed Spike on the cheek, before dashing to the door. "See you later." He dived through the door shutting it behind him.
Willow sat down across from Xander. He already had a tray of food. She smiled at him. She had extra on hers for him, but it seemed somehow he'd scraped together the money for his own. And his clothes were new. So were his shoes. She wrinkled up her nose a bit. "Hey, Xander? What, did your parents suddenly decide it was your birthday or something?"
Xander felt a moment of panic, what was he going to tell her? He knew that if he said he had left home with a man, even a superhero and that he had promised to take care of him, Willow would hardly approve. What was worse she might tell her parents. Xander moved his food around a bit and shrugged. "I, I spent some of the money my gran left me,” He lied.
Willow nodded. "The clothes look good on you." She worried about Xander. He never seemed to have enough to eat. And then there were the bruises sometimes he never would explain. "You seem... I dunno, different somehow."
Xander squirmed a little. It was hard for him to lie. Usually he forgot what he'd said and somehow Willow always seemed to be able to tell. "Things are quieter at home, that's all."
Willow smiled and patted his arm with her hand. "Good. You wanna come over and study tonight?"
Xander felt the panic return, he's promised to go straight back to Spike and besides he wanted to. "I can't tonight. I've promised that I'd go straight home."
Willow frowned again. "Okay. You sure things are okay at home?"
Xander nodded. "Honestly, just that I promised to be home on time." Xander hated lying to her. Willow had been his rock the past couple of years. She did her best to see he ate and had even washed and repaired his clothes. He made up his mind that if he left with Spike, he would leave her a note explaining. "Don't worry about me Wills I have a feeling things are going to get better."
Willow sighed. "Just promise me if things get bad you'll come to me, okay? You know I'll help if I can."
Xander nodded. The truth was Willow had no real idea how bad things really were at times. Sure she knew he often had bruises but not how he actually got them. "I promise." He reassured her.
"Okay. We'd better eat, then I can help you with algebra."
Xander breathed a sigh of relief and they ate their food quickly, then Willow helped him with his math.
Xander got caught later in the day daydreaming in English class, looking at the cover of the latest 'William the Bloody Avenger'. His teacher just tsked, and assigned him to detention after school. It was late when Xander finally got out, cutting across the park to try to get back to Spike faster. He wasn't really watching around him. So he didn't hear the rasp of scales across the ground until his path was blocked. He was looking at the ground, so he saw the lower half of her first. It was like a massive snake, something out of a horror movie. His eyes traveled up, and the upper half was a woman, just barely clad, and her eyes were slitted like a snake. He found he couldn't stop looking at her eyes. "Mmm, what have we here?" She hissed. "A sweet little manchild."
Xander stood rooted to the spot. His mind drifted to every horror movie he had ever seen, how often had he shouted for the dork of a victim to run like hell instead of standing there like an idiot. Truth was he couldn't move, he just stared and stared at the creature.
The creature slid closer, and her tail began to coil around Xander, bit by bit, as her eyes held him captive. "I can smell the innocence on you, boy. You're ripe to be plucked. Come back with me." Her hands slid around his waist.
Xander's head felt swimmy and his body stared to go limp. He stared into her eyes. "Go with you." He said dreamily.
She smiled, and her slender fangs came into view. "That's it. Such a good boy." She started slithering back, slowly, into the trees, pulling Xander along with her. Suddenly she shrieked as a black blur emerged behind her. Her eye contact with Xander was broken as she released him. As she whirled to face Spike, who stood there, sword out, Xander could see the black blood seeping from a cut on her back. "Let him go, he's mine," Spike snarled. The creature hissed and moved towards Spike, claws out, almost as fast as Spike was.
Released from her gaze Xander shook his head to try and clear it. "Spike!" He shouted. "Watch out!" He threw his rucksack at the creature and for a second her gaze snapped to him and she hissed. He staggered back, tripped and landed with an 'oomph' on his ass.
Spike snarled again, his face transformed, his eyes golden, as he moved in even faster, slashing with his blade, cutting at the creature. She took several cuts before she turned with a hiss and slithered quickly away into the trees. Spike moved over and grabbed Xander's arm. "Come on, before she comes back," he said. "We need to get out of here."
Xander struggled to his feet, surprised at the change in Spike's face and eyes. He trotted beside Spike as they hurried away. "What was that thing?"
Spike urged him on. "A lamia. She'll be back, soon enough." Spike's face slid back to its normal shape, the eyes returning to blue.
"Why did she want me?"
"She wanted to feed on you." Spike pulled him along. They all but ran back to the motel, Spike not stopping til the door was locked, and he'd carved a symbol on the wood inside with his sword. "There. That should throw her off." He settled down, pulling Xander to sit beside him. "I was worried. Where were you?"
Xander started to shake as the adrenaline subsided and shock set in. "I got put in detention for reading your comic in class." he blinked at Spike. "She was going to eat me?"
Spike snorted. "In a manner of speaking, yeah. She would've slowly fed off your life force. They like the young, especially horny young teenage boys like you."
Xander blushed and ducked his head. "I'm not" He mumbled defensively.
Spike chuckled, hand sliding up to stroke Xander's hair. "Not what? Not horny? You're a teenage boy."
Xander leaned into Spike's touch. The truth was he did get sexy feelings and sometimes they involved girls but more often they involved male football stars or baseball players, though Xena was hot and Seven of Nine. Xander reckoned his feelings were wrong, so did his best to ignore them as much as he could. "I try not to think about it," he mumbled, "Besides we had the sex talk at school it was kinda ewwwww." He wrinkled up his nose.
Spike chuckled again, softer this time. "It can be, yes." He leaned in closer, kissing Xander's forehead. "You've had a bit of a scare, haven't you then? You awright? She didn't bite you or nick you with her claws, did she?" Spike seemed concerned about Xander, his voice soft and solicitous.
Xander leaned in against Spike. He'd almost stopped trembling. He could smell Spike. Leather and tobacco and something Xander couldn't quite place. "No she didn't touch me. I'm not scratched or anything."
Spike nodded. "That's good. She feeds with those fangs. And her claws are poison." Spike wrapped his arms around Xander, pulling him in close, almost onto his lap. "I was afraid you weren't coming."
Xander looked u at him. "I just got kept behind. I took the short way through the park so that I'd be here quicker. I wouldn't not come back."
"Good boy." Spike looked into his eyes. "I do want to help you, you know?"
Xander gaze into the crystal blue of Spike's eyes. There was something about Spike that knocked all of Xander's defenses for a loop, made him feel safe and cared for. "I know." He said softly, resting his head on Spike's shoulder.
Spike rocked back and forth a little, arms still tight around Xander. "That's my boy." He kissed Xander on the forehead again. Then on the cheek. Then he looked into Xander's eyes, his mouth getting closer to Xander's. He was looking into those soft brown eyes, gauging the young man's reaction.
Xander's gaze never left Spike's. Spike's soft kisses and strong arms were like heaven to the boy. He leaned forward slightly and tilted his head a little. His heart quickened and his cheeks blushed delicately.
Spike gently pressed his lips against Xander's. It was tender, chaste, but lingering as he let the kiss draw out. He finally pulled back, just a little, whispering against Xander's skin. "Was that awright?"
Xander's eyes fluttered shut the moment Spike's lips touched his. They opened slowly, soft and warm. He gazed at Spike. "It was lovely," he murmured against Spike's lips.
"I shouldn't, you know. You're so young. But there's just something about you." Spike kept looking down at Xander, his hands stroking along Xander's back as he held him close.
Xander blinked at him not really understanding what Spike was saying. He felt the strong hands stroking his back and soothing him and smiled.
Spike kissed his forehead again. "Come on, let's order something to eat. I'm sure you're starving by now."
The moment was broken and Xander pulled back a little. He nodded "I would love a pizza."
Spike chuckled. "Typical. Well, get the phone book, we'll call and order some." He smiled as Xander moved to get the phone book, and Xander couldn't see the hungry gleam in his eyes. Xander was so close, Spike thought. So close to being ready.

Date: 2007-06-10 10:39 am (UTC)Poor Xander, so starved of affection that he's willing to go with this stranger. There must be a voice in head telling him that this isn't a sensible thing to do, but Spike is so damn plausible that the boy doesn't stand a chance.
It's terrible, one part of me wants to shout at Xander and tell him to run like hell, and then other half wants all Spike's plans to come to fruition. Is torn, but in a very happy way. Really looking forward to the next chapter

Date: 2007-06-10 03:38 pm (UTC)Xander knows he shouldn't go with strangers, he lies to Willow because on some level he senses this isn't quite right, but the truth is, he really doesn't care. As you say Spike is so damn plausible and weaves his web so well Xander can't help but be caught up in it.
