She hears his voice crackle over the intercom. She knows he'd rather be the one in her pilot's seat, but there's no time for that. There's no time for anything, not now, not a chance to second guess her maneuvering or an opportunity to turn back. Besides, she knows what has to be done, and she knows this will win the game, stop the User, and safe another system.

Her blue eyes close tightly against the brightness of the game's sun as she flies straight into it. It's the brightest light she's ever seen. She hears Enzo scream and Frisket bark, and her heart aches. It aches, but she knows she'll survive this. She'll have a nano, right before she would have otherwise been fried, for the game to be won and all to be set back the way it should be.

"Game Over. Computer Wins." She wonders again what a computer is, and then she's falling. She lands in her partner's strong arms, and in a rare moment of gentility from the big, green man, he kisses her forehead.

"You had me worried there," he says, smiling down at her. Frisket yips joyously.

She winces against the bright sparkle of his gold earring. Everything is still hurting her eyes now, and she blinks rapidly even as she smiles and pats his cheek. "How many times do I have to tell you not to worry about me, Sparky?" she teases lightly, but still, she hurts.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that?" is his retort that earns the smile he sought.

Binomes are suddenly screaming and cheering all around them. He works his way through them, still carrying her and refusing to let her down onto her own feet. She doesn't fight much, though. It feels good to have his arms around her, hear his heart beating underneath her ear, and know how worried he truly was, how much he still loves her.

"You should've let me fry the sucker."

"He had five ships still left in the game," she points out. "You couldn't have taken them all out in those few nanos."

"Try me," he growls, and she thinks she would like to try him pressed against a building somewhere or straddled over a chair . . . if only she felt better.

"Warning: Incoming Game. Warning: Incoming Game."

She sighs as he looks up. "Here we go. Now, this time, you take it easy, and let me win the game."

She's still smiling despite the frustration that surges within her. She knows he only wants to protect her, but still, the Sprite can be so blasted stubborn! The most rickety dirigible is easier to steer in the heart of the sun than he'll ever be. Still, she'll let him win the day this time, and then they'll port to another system with the game and save more bitmaps. She wonders if they'll ever reach home, but she knows even as she stands with his help, that no matter how aggravating he is, no matter how bitter and hardcore he becomes, no matter how long it takes them to reach their final destination, she'll never stop loving Enzo Matrix.

She turns, places her hands on his biceps, leans against him, and looks up into his eyes as the game descends above them. "I love you, Sparky," she says, and her smile can't help but to grow as she hears the binomes behind them whispering "ooh"s and "aw"s as she kisses him. She's still kissing him as the game settles, and into another world, side by side, with Frisket along for the ride, they go.

The End
