Summary: erceval was very young the first time he saw dirigibles.

Perceval was very young the first time he saw dirigibles. He didn't even know what they were called then. He thought them to be whales of the sky. They were so huge and majestic, he could compare them to nothing else. He didn't mention it to his mother though. He had learned never to tell her he had been looking at the sky. It was a source of evil she had told her, where all misery and tears came from. It was easy to believe in their small hut in the middle of the woods. There was no one else to tell him otherwise.

Perceval grew but never forgot about his first sight of a dirigible. He spotted many after it. He had been so dazzled by its majestic shape that he had been unable to tear his eyes from the sky. He knew he shouldn't have but he couldn't help himself. He would hike to an isolated clearing whenever he could and lie on the grass, his eyes fixed on the sky. Most of the time there were only the clouds and the birds, but occasionally a dirigible would appear. His heart would always stop at the sight, his breath taken away by their glistening body and the undeniable power they held. In those instant, he forgot about his mother, the woods and his life. All he cared about was the whale of the sky. He wanted to fly one and see the earth from above, like a vigilante watching over the world, keeping it safe.

This idea took hold of him and slowly he came to question his mother's words. How could the sky only bring misery and tears when such marvelous object flew into it? Surely they were here to protect people. He had never seen them fire at anyone. He wanted to ask his mother about it but didn't dare utter a word about it. He didn't want to make her sad.

So Perceval kept on living his simple life in the woods, dreaming of the vastness of the sky and the wonderful adventures he could have. Until one day as he stepped into the clearing, he was blinded by smoke, his body guided by the sound of shouting voices. A whale of the sky had crashed into his clearing. He froze instantly as he realised this.

"Hey boy!" Perceval jumped at the sound of the voice clearly addressing him. He looked around before resting his eyes on a man standing in a ruffled brown uniform.

"Yeah, you," the man added as he saw the look of puzzlement in Perceval's eyes. "Do you live around here?"

Perceval nodded.

"Good. D'you think you could help? We're in a bit of a pickle there."

Perceval nodded once more.

"Good. Come closer then," the man instructed. Perceval obeyed, his eyes incapable of resting on a single spot for more than a few seconds. A whale of the sky had fallen into his clearing. A whale of the sky had come to take him away.
