Summary:After hearing about the nogitsune, Cora comes back to Beacon Hills to help.
A/N: Spoilers up to 3x19 Letharia Vulpina. I'm not that happy with that part, but I'm so tired at the moment ... Anyway, I don't know how to play liar's dice, and I don't know why I keep putting things I don't know about in my stories.
Scott brought Kira to the loft the next day after school. They had talked a bit during lunch, but the girl hadn't been able to give him much more information than what she had already shared. All she had been able to tell him was that her mother was probably a kitsune too, but didn't want to tell her about it. It hadn't been difficult to convince Kira to come and talk with the youngest Hale sibling, as she was eager to learn about her condition, whatever the source may be.
They walked through the big sliding door to find Derek and Cora in the middle of a game of liar's dice. Entertainment means wasn't something the older werewolf was well provided for, and the set of dices Cora had made him purchased during her stay in Beacon Hills the previous summer had quickly become a nice way to spend time without thinking too much about the nogitsune situation.
The Hales' eyes barely left each other when Scott and Kira opened the door. Derek had a focused expression on his face, while Cora looked a little smug with a small smile tugging at her lips.
"Liar", Derek said slowly, his eyes squinting a little.
Cora's smile grew bigger. "Sorry, Bro", she replied, lifting her cup. A growling Derek glared at the dices underneath while his sister added a fifth mark under his name on the paper where they had written their score down.
The game being over, both looked toward the newcomers.
"Hi !", Kira said, waving her hand and smiling broadly.
"You must be Kira", Cora replied while getting up from the bench in front of the loft's table. She could hardly have been mistaken, though, not with the bright fox-shaped aura that envelopped the girl. Derek had been right when he had said she didn't know how to control it yet. That would make things more complicated, but they were lucky to have a kitsune on their side, whatever its training level.
The fact that the girl looked as cute as a kitten was only bonus.
"And you must be Cora", Kira beamed, walking toward the table. She couldn't wait to know all the things the she-wolf could tell her about kitsune's – and so about herself.
"You should sit down", Derek offered, pointing to the couch with his head. Scott led his kind-of-girlfriend on the seat. The two men stayed mostly quiet for a long time, letting Kira explained all that she had discovered during the last few weeks, and Cora repeating what she had learned with her Brazilian pack.
"My mom knows a lot more about all this", Kira was saying, her voice subdued by simply knowing that her own parents were hiding something that important from her. "But she doesn't want to talk about it to me. I overheard her and my dad talking about it."
Cora winced. "I can help you, but only with the basics. You'll need to talk to her about this at some point, and the sooner the better", she said as sweetly as she could manage. She didn't want to add on the sadness the fox girl was already feeling, but their situation didn't allow them to waste time in diplomacy.
Kira's eyes lit up at her words, though. "You can help me ?", she said, her hopes rising again.
"I've spent some time with a kitsune, back in Bahia", Cora replied. "She told us a bit about the protecting side of her fox. The aura doesn't only protect you. If you learn how to control it, it can be steered to protect people around you."
The asian girl looked at her wide-eyed. "How can I do that ?"
"I know a bit of the theory." Cora shrugged. "I can teach you."
