Summary: Gareth was sitting on top of a cliff, protected from the wind by the high walls of the castle.

Gareth was sitting on top of a cliff, protected from the wind by the high walls of the castle. He looked longingly at the waves dancing in and out of the shore. He wished he could be on the beach were his brothers had been only an hour earlier paddling in the sea and teaching Gaheris to handle his own small boat.

“Gareth,” Mordred inquired as he turned a corner and saw the figure of his younger sibling sitting in the shade. “What are you doing here?”

Gareth looked up to him. “I was tired of being in our room.”

Mordred came to sit next to him. “I thought you had gone to sail with your brothers.”

“I was judged too sick to go,” Gareth replied his eyes dropping to the ground.

Mordred looked at him in sympathy. He placed a hand on his shoulder before getting up, extending a hand to him. “I think this is nonsense. Let’s go sailing.”

Gareth raised his eyes timidly. Mordred only smiled at him. “Come on,” he insisted gently. Gareth’s eyes were glowing with hope and happiness as he reached for his older brother hand.

Down by the sea, Gareth was sitting in a small wooden boat with a white sail while Mordred stood next to it on the sand. “Are you ready,” he asked.

Gareth nodded.

“Ok. Off you go then,” Mordred said as he gave a gentle push to the boat making it enter the sea.

The boat wobbled on the waves as Gareth tried to handle the sail as Mordred had showed him on land but he didn’t seem to be able to replicate any of the gestures right. The boat tangled on the water and Gareth kept moving left and right to keep it balancing on the water. Mordred shot instructions at him but Gareth didn’t have time to pay attention to them. He was too focused on trying to find the right position for the sail. He held out a few minutes on this mad dance before the boat toppled to the side and he found himself falling in the water. As his head rose above the water level, he saw Mordred smiling at him. Gareth turned to the boat and started to climb back into it. As he did so, he heard Mordred walk toward him.

“Well done,” he commented taking the side of the boat in his hands and helping steadying it.

“I capsised,” Gareth pointed out.

“Yes you did. But you held out longer than I did my first time on water.”

“Really?”

“I capsized as soon as the first wave hit the boat,” Mordred laughed as he jumped into the small boat with his brother. “Now, let me show you how you do this.” He took hold of Gareth’s hands and placed them on the wooden stick directing the sail. He put his own hands on top of his and started to direct him gently, slowly taking his hands off as his younger brother started to understand the gestures and wind.
