Summary: "I remember," she whispered as she kissed Anna's wrists where scars had once marked much darker days.
Anna laughed as their lips parted. She held Agathe closer to her and lay a trail of kisses down her shoulders and neck.
"You remember," she mumbled over and over again in between kisses.
"I do..." Agathe gently pushed Anna away. Anna sobered instantly at the gesture, afraid to have made a wrong move. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Agathe replied reassuringly. She took Anna's hand in hers. "It's just that I don't remember it all. It's... hazy."
"Of course. I'm sorry I shouldn't have... it's just..."
"It's okay," Agathe interrupted. "Just give me a bit of time."
Anna nodded.
"Should we finish this walk?"
"I would love that."
They walked in silent, the full moon as their only lights as they stepped out of the village and into the small country lane. Anna was surprised at how loud everything was. There were night birds and mice scurrying in the fields. She was glad of Agathe's presence even if the other woman didn't seem to be aware of any of the array of sounds around them. Her eyes were lost in the darkness in front of them, her mind unlocking doors to the past and revealing worlds that had been forgotten for too long. Anna held her hand a little tighter but still let herself be guided by Agathe. She had lived in this region for the whole of this life and knew this roads better than her. They were safe.
They entered the next village after half an hour walked and finally stopped as they reached Agathe's house. Agathe seemed to come back to this reality when she saw her house.
"Do you want to come in," she asked hesitantly.
"If that's okay with you."
"It is."
Agathe opened the door and held it for Anna. They remained silent for a long second before Anna said, "I can use the guest bedroom or even the sofa if you haven't had time to finish the guest room."
"There's no need for that. I'll take the sofa. You take my bed."
"Agathe.."
"It's my house," Agathe cut her short. "You take the bed, I the sofa. I'll just need a few things from my room."
Anna nodded and followed Agathe up the stairs to her bedroom. She didn't need the guidance to find the room but she didn't want to go first and intrude. This was not her house even if she had hoped it would be from the moment she saw it.
Aghathe took some clean sheets and a blanket from her cupboard before going back downstairs, leaving Anna to settle into her bed. Anna had watched her go before lying fully clothed on one side of the covers. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. She curled into a feotal position and if she imagined it hard enough she could pretend Agathe was sleeping by her side. She rolled onto the other side but the space was empty. She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling. She wanted to touch Agathe, to kiss her lips once more and help her remember it all but the other woman was down a flight of stairs and she had all the cards in her hands at the moment. Anna leaned on her side and watch the sky through the window hoping sleep would eventually come to take her away. She didn't know how long she had remained in that position before hearing the careful steps of Agathe on the stairs, in the corridor and finally in her room. She was standing by the foot of the bed when Anna rolled on her back. She smiled at her not daring to say a word. Agathe slowly lay onto the bed and started kissing Anna, her hands sliding her shirt.
"I remember," she whispered as she kissed Anna's wrists where scars had once marked much darker days.
