She would have found the situation funny if she hadn't been so scared. But no humorous thought came to her as she retrieved the cooking salt from the spice shelf, knocking down some other bottles in her hurry. When she got back to the living room, Lucy was still in the same position she had adopted when she had left the room, clutching her baseball bat so hard her finger joints had whitened. She was looking at every corner of the room, not knowing where the next attack would be from.

"I don't think a bat would do them any damage", Virginia pointed out before kneeling and pouring salt to form a not-quite-perfect circle on the floor, large enough to house the two of them. All she could hope was that salt was indeed a safeguard against ghosts, as she had read in numerous books, or they would be in trouble – and without any backup plan.

"Well, it doesn't hurt either, so leave me alone and keep spicing up the floor, would you?", Lucy replied dryly without looking at her friend. She did eye the salty circle briefly, wondering if it woud work. She had never believed in magic and spells and all that jazz, but she hadn't believed in ghosts neither until she had been attacked. She wasn't really sure about anything anymore.

"I'm done, come here!", Virginia said while moving her arms wildly. Lucy didn't let go of her improvised weapon when she stepped inside the circle, and put it on her lap after she had sitten down in front of the other woman.

"I still don't think it's useful", said woman commented, pointing at the wooden stick.

"I don't care", Lucy replied with a sigh.

"I'm starving", Lucy whinned two hours later. They hadn't left the circle, even if nothing supernatural had happened during the last hour or so. They had a hard time shaking out the idea that the ghosts were waiting for them to move to attack. But as time was passing by, they also realized they would need a better plan than stay in the circle forever. And that was without taking into account that Lucy's legs were killing her, and that they had nothing to eat within the circle except for a pack of salt and a wooden bat.

"Yeah, me too", Virginia replied, hugging the salt against her chest. "We need a plan, we can't just stay here to starve."

"I agree", Lucy said. "One of us is gonna have to leave to grab at least a cellphone."

Virginia stayed silent for a second, pondering her friend's plan. "And maybe something to eat", she eventually said. "I'll go. I can throw salt at the ghosts if they try anything."

"I can throw salt at them too, you know, you don't have to be the one to do it", Lucy pointed out with a raised eyebrow.

"Good, I was hoping you would say that", Virginia replied, stuffing the salt pack in Lucy's arms. Reckoning she had been well played, Lucy snorted but said nothing. She got up and took a deep breath before stepping out of the circle. She didn't wasted time seeing if somethin happened, and instead she run to the kitchen, grabbed her cellphone from the breakfast table, a cereal box sitting next to it, and run back to the safety of the circle. She dropped down on the floor with a deep sigh of relief.

"Operation cellphone successful", she managed to say, handing the box to Virginia. "Who are we gonna call now?"

"Ghostbuster?"

"Who are we gonna call now?" "Ghostbuster?" *laughs* That's delightful.
