Title : The promised land

A/N : based on a post on tumblr that I can't find anymore. Major silliness ahead, as often.
Summary : A battle is brewing.

It had been the season, the perfect moment of the year to launch an invasion. It didn't guarantee success, of course, they had all known that, but, with the weather lowering the ennemy's defenses, it was their best shot. Other tribes didn't need to monitor the sky – they relied on other weaknesses – but for them, it was often essential.

The king and his generals had planned the attack carefully, aiming at the most effective way to invade the place. The first phase had to be quick, as to assure their presence in the premises, where the army was to stay hidden ; they were targetting a wide entity, and they would have time to send smaller teams on several strategic places before being discovered. That second part was to be slower, so the locals would discover what was going on too late to get rid of them quickly.

Last year, they had been too eager, and they had lost the territory near as soon as they had got it. Today, they aimed at a longer infiltration, and maybe at taking one or two of the surrounding entities.

"My subjects, my friend", the king began, adressing his men for the last time before the beginning of the operation, "today, we are about to make history. For the past generations, all our attempts at settling in this promised land, at conquering a home for ourselves, have failed, leaving only death in their wake. Countless of our fathers, our mothers, died trying to provide you with a warm place to spend the cold months. They had dreamed of a aboundance of food and water for each of us, for each of their grandchildren. We can make their dream come true. We can take the land that had been denied us for so long. We can ensure our children's future, and we will!" His deep voice reverberated in the air, touching the heart, the soul of every warrior before him. Motivating them with the dream that had inhabited their tribe for so long.

"It is time, now, to prepare ourselves for the assault. The time is right. The ennemy will come to us, and we will take our rightful place. Be ready, my friends, my brothers. Tonight, we will sleep in our new home!"

Joyous war cries greeted his last words, the entire army shouting his name again and again. They all wanted to hope, they all wanted to believe that today, there would be no massacre. Today, they wanted to believe they would win, unlike their fathers, and their fathers before them. When the outburst of cries calmed down, the generals sorted the army, readying every phalanx for the upcoming attack. They stayed at their place, perfect models of discipline. They all knew it could take a while, and none of them risked jeopardizing the operation by taking a break, even after hours of waiting.

And suddenly it was there. The ennemy. The promised land. It took a step outside, shivering in the cold weather.

"We should go now", a soldier dared to stay, loud enough to be heard by his general.

"No", the commanding man replied gravely. "It must be out for an entire minute. It's the rule. A germ's honor is abiding to the rule."
