Title: Human Studies 101
Prompt 426 Ichthus
Rating: PG
Summary: Jisara's favorite subject at school was Ancient Culture and Civilization, and among them, Humans were the most fascinating.

Xanthalu was Jisara's favorite school day, because on Xanthalu, she had two periods of Ancient Cultures and Civilizations, and it was a subject she enjoyed immensely. She loved to listen to Master Okrnet telling the stories of people past, and she delighted in imagining how their life had been, back in the days when their civilization was at its climax. She was passionate about it, enough to have read all the books on the subject she could find at the library.

She had learned about the Heresarchy Empire, that had briefly dominated the Coalicorice sector before collapsing under the weight of its own corruption, and its traditional triadic marriages, so foreign to a little girl raised in a free association society. She had contemplated pictures of the greatest buildings of the Limbonies, that had taken up so much space on their planet that the population didn't have any place left to live. She had awed at the collection of crystal cranes at the museum, so glossy and mysterious, their origin still uncertain despite the relentless effort of thousands of scientists spanning over centuries.

But none of those could compete with the Humans from Neruoo, the planet they had called Earth – that's one of those things she loved about ancient civilizations, they all had an exotic-sounding name for their planet but, in the end, it was always a translation of something like Earth. Jisara was fascinated by Humans. Even though they were biologically one race, they were split up in thousands, millions of groups, following the most extravagant ideas, such as skin color, political views, or hobbies. New groups of Humans were discovered every year in excavations or ancient testimonies.

Today, they were finishing an overview of Human religions, wich had already occupied last week's two periods. Master Okrnet had already talked about several important groups, such as Hindus and Wiccans. Jisara had found it a very interesting, but somewhat challenging subject. She was especially afraid she wouldn't be able to remember the names and attributes of the 67 avatars of the Doctor from the Whovian religion. Maybe one day, she would work at the Tardis Institute to try and crack the secrets of the Name of the Doctor, which was believed to be the center of the ultimate initiation ceremony of the sect.

But for today, she would have to settle for the second part of Humans' main religions, and right at the moment, for Master Okrnet's lesson about Christianism.

"Although the most powerful being in the Christian pantheon is believed to be God, the cult of his son, Jesus, was widely popular in some part of the planet, where his followers displayed his symbols on many of their possessions. Jesus is a polymorphic deity, sometimes taking the form of a fish to appear to his disciples, and therefore called Ichthus, the Greek name for the fish."

Jisara remembered having read about the fish. The book also had a section about another related sect, that she hadn't understood entirely at the time. She raised her hand, trusting her teacher would be able to enlighten her.

"Yes, Jisara?"

"I read in a book that the fish symbol was related to another sect, the Pastafarians? I didn't understand how they were linked", she asked. On her left, Rotitra sighed. She didn't like it when Jisara asked questions in class. Rotitra was an idiot.

Master Okrnet smiled. "Indeed, the Pastafarians sect is believed to have emerged from Christianism during the positive-20th century (Neruoo Era), because of a divergence of opinion in the nature of Jesus. Its members believed Jesus didn't morph into a fish, but into a flying spaghetti monster. The extant of that divergence is more complicated than that, though, but it will be matter for those of you who will continue in Human Studies in their Higher Grade years."

Jisara wrote down dutifully the note about the flying spaghetti monster. She would look on the Infinet to find more information about it. A flying spaghetti monster. Humans were so fascinating.
