Summary: "Are you completely out of your mind?" Gawain sprang up to his feet in a fit of anger, sending his chair crashing on to the floor in a loud noise.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" Gawain sprang up to his feet in a fit of anger, sending his chair crashing on to the floor in a loud noise.

"He is sleeping with Mother, our Mother," Gaheris defended, spitting the words out. His face was torn with disgust and anger. Gawain had trouble distinguishing the soft lines and innocence he had loved so much about his younger brother. He inhaled deeply, trying to calm his anger. There was no point in starting a yelling contest. It would lead nowhere, they never did. He forced himself to unclench his fists slowly. He looked his brother in the eyes and started softly, "Gaheris," he poured all of his love in the name. "I know she is our mother but she is also human. She is alone in the isles of the far North, and she has been for decades now. Father died and we left her. Can you imagine how that must feel?" His voice was steady and slow, the words forcing themselves out one at a time on the same wavelength. He wanted to grab his brother by the shoulders and shake his nonsense out of him but this was not a viable solution. He had to remain still and soft.

"She is still our Mother, she is..." Gaheris stumbled on his words. He had no other explanation or justification. Gawain knew this and wanted him to realise it as well, to understand how ridiculous the whole idea was but Gaheris didn't want to open his eyes. He glared at Gawain for an instant before rising to his feet and storming out of the room. The door slam so hard behind him that Gawain could feel the reverberations through his bones.

As silence returned in his chamber, he hit the table with his fist, sending splinters of wood flying in the air. When had Gaheris, the sweetest of them all, turn into a murderer? What has this life in Camelot done to all of them? They had been so united and strong in the Orkneys and through their journey to the heart of the Kingdom but now... now... Gawain couldn't face what was happening. He suddenly felt spent and alone. The weight of his body became too much for him and fell to the floor, unable to support himself.

It was all too much. It has always been too much. His strength was wavering and he didn't know how to support all of his brothers and how to maintain order and peace any longer. He had loved them so much and given so much to them but he had let them go in Camelot. He had forgotten about them and selfishly thought of his own glory. He had sacrificed them and hadn't noticed them turn into murdered. He had failed. And now, it was too late to save them. Silent tears started to flow along his cheeks as he brought his knees to his chest, curling himself into a ball.
