"Are you sure you want to come," Anna asked for the hundredth time. They were standing outside of the airport, waiting for their taxi. "It's your first time abroad and there are far more interesting things to do than clear out my apartment."
Agathe leaned into Anna's body and laced her hand into her possessive. "Of course I'm sure. I want to see where you used to live, what your life was like."
"Well, I told you. It was... boring and empty," Anna replied, shifting her weight away from Agathe. She laughed and dragged her back to her, spinning her so that they were facing each other.
"You won't escape that easily," Agahe pointed out. She kissed her. "You're going to have to show me all those shameful things you've been hiding," she teased as she started to tickle the other woman. Anna laughed as she tried to wriggle herself out of Agathe's grasp. She finally escaped and out of breath she admitted defeat.
"Ok. Let's go to my flat then." She was smiling again.
---*---
"Ready?" Anna glanced nervously towards Agathe. They were standing in front of her flat's door. She could feel her nervousness rising again. Behind the door was all the remains of her old life, everything that wasn't her anymore. The only reason they were here was because Anna didn't have any friend in New-York who could clear her place for her. All she had were acquaintances and colleagues. All of her friends were in France where she had made her new life with Agathe. It has been a year since she had last stepped in this doorway and she didn't miss it. If anything, it felt like a chore to have to be there.
"Are you going to open the door," Agathe enquired. Anna emerged from her reverie at the sound of her voice.
"Yes." She slid the key in the lock, turned it and pushed the door open. "Welcome," she announced stepping to one side to let Agathe in.
"Wow! It's..." Agathe was lost for words. "It's..." she tried again as she emerged in the living room. "...very not you," she finally finished. Everything was grey, neat and sharp. It was like stepping into an estate agent publicity flat.
"I warned you. I wasn't..." Anna wanted to say she hadn't been living but her words were superfluous. Agathe could see it clearly in the lack of wear in any of the furniture. "My office was more of a home."
"Well, then good thing is that we won't have much to do to get it ready for rent." Agathe turned back towards Anna. "So it's more time wandering the streets." She smiled and Anna laughed at her logic. She closed the door and came to kiss Agathe. She felt her slide her hands under her shirt. "I thought you didn't want to spend time in this flat," Anna pointed out as their lips parted.
"Well... I do have to try the bed and see if it needs replacing. You would have used it at least a little bit," Agathe answered. Anna laughed once more before kissing her and getting her t-shirt over her head.
